Has the Queen died?

Who knew that heavy smokers were prone to chest problems? They'll be telling us next that drink driving and not wearing a seatbelt are bad for you.

She’s a gonner I reckon

Charles next then we can move on to getting rid of the kids as the OAP “royal worshipping” generation shuffles of this mortal coil and their jubilee China gets skipped

Then we'll have the cost of another sodding royal funeral on top of the £72m his coronation cost (according to BBC earlier today) followed by another bloody £70m+ coronation.

Another of the "tough decisions" that are reportedly necessary to "mend the public finances":

"A national memorial to Elizabeth II could cost as much as £46m, with the government calling on leading artists, architects and engineers to put forward ideas for the monument ...

The government has set a provisional construction budget of between £23m and £46m excluding VAT for the project, with the money for it coming from public funds ..."

Elizabeth II memorial could cost up to £46m

Queen Elizabeth II expressed her relief that Northern Ireland's "silly marching business" was quieter than expected when the then Irish ambassador to the UK visited in 2000, Irish government papers have revealed.

Ted Barrington, who met the late queen at a Buckingham Palace garden party on 25 July that year, said it was not the first time he heard "her dismissive views of the Orange marches".

Almost 25 years later, and after Elizabeth II's death, the report has now been cleared for release by the Department of Foreign Affairs and the National Archives of Ireland.

Mr Barrington said her comments "were similar to those she has made to me on previous occasions".

For those who justify the monarchy on the grounds that it helps unite people, the question must be asked: why was the late Queen silent when self-declared loyalists were setting fire to the homes of Roman Catholics in Belfast in 1969?
