Hackney chitter-chatter &tc

Clapton Hart is closing in just over a week, for a month for a refit, they will be putting in a new kitchen, expanding the size of the bar , & changing the garden area. The new manager, George , used to work at the Billet . The new owners used to own the Billet (they were silent partners of Michael who was the main owner) . They want to attract folk from the Billet #pubwars

Mum Lianne Gordon shot dead through door in Hackney

"A teenager has been found guilty of the murder of a 42-year-old mother who was shot dead through her front door as she tried to protect her children from gang violence ...

... He had been on bail on a charge of attempted murder at the time of Ms Gordon's murder and was convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court afterwards ..."

Lianne Gordon: Teen guilty of shooting mum through front door

Very, very sad - I completely fail to understand the mentally of young people that get involved with that sort of stuff especially when it involves other people that have no connection.
Poor woman, I wonder if he has any sense of shame or guilt :(

That must have been a hell of a party
Funnily enough, the day of the demolition was a bit of a party. We'd been decanted, mostly into the nearby newbuilds on Holly Street but got evacuated to a nearby school the day three of the four tower blocks were to come down. The council had food, drink, musicians, magicians and other entrtainment, as well as bouncy castles laid on for us. Fair play to the council, we were well catered for. My oldest lad, now in his early 30s, was a toddler in a pushchair back then, and when the blocks came down he burst into tears. I was very sad too. I remember getting annoyed with some posh twat nearby, telling his kids to look at the "horrible old flats coming down". I didn't say anything as he was with his kids, but I was thinking that was our fucking home, you dick.

I think I went to the demolition , there was a time when there was regular demolitions, went to maybe 6 of them ?

Update on the attempted phone theft I helped to foil a few months ago, Police called me last week and said they had not been able to arrest anyone (no surprise there tbf) but that the victim wanted to thank me, so they gave me his details - I rang him, he was very pleased to hear from me, offered to buy me some trousers (they were ripped in the incident, but I got them repaired) and he insisted on sending me a gift so I gave him my address. He's about 70, and runs orchestras, used to play in them as well. Very sweet gesture from him - he also rang the others who got involved at the time.

:hmm:
Just yesterday I was thinking that I need to hire a local string section....

Here is the latest on HMP Mossbourne and the awful treatment of the children there.

I've met quite a few people locally who won't sent their kids to Mossbourne or Petchey amd that was before this (and the Child X) stuff.

(I see Petchey became Exelsior or some such nonsense recently.)

Same, but they seem to have an enduring appeal to parents who are worried that their kids might go off the rails, or who come from errrrrr more "traditional" cultures in terms of strictness...

There are a few black parents who are scared their sons will end up in gangs and all sorts and I guess that isn't unwarranted. But I dunno if Mossbourne is a solution- presumably it could fuel teenage rebellion too. Or give kids and appetite for sadism, I dunno.

We went to the Petchey open day when looking at secondaries and the speech from the head teacher was one of the worst presentations I have ever seen - incredibly long and rambling. And included the bizarre claim that the lunches were so good there that she didn't need an evening meal when she got home.

I think we can all take a guess why Petchey aligned itself with a new uber-academy body and changed its name.
It was certainly done extremely quietly. I walk past it every day and not sure when exactly it changed or how long I took to notice it.

(Assume it was down to the bad publicity round Child X..?)

Well the school involved with the Child Q thing was never named in the press, so that would be wild and possibly unfair speculation of course. Although people do know, of course.

But there were other Hackney schools like Tyssen that were renamed in recent years because the pupils and parents weren't happy about them being named after slave traders and that had a bit more coverage in the local press...
