Hackney chitter-chatter &tc

I'd say it'd be in the local news but a couple of weeks ago, there was a massive ambulance/police presence in Amhurst Road (one ambulance, two ambulance response cars, one of those doctor trauma response cars, loads of police cars and a block of flats all taped off with a police guard) and there was no mention in the news at all. (I heard a couple of people who lived in that block say there'd been a stabbing and there was blood everywhere but who knows. :()
Also the amount of coverage given to the local news is much diminished even compared to a few years back

Caroline Woodley is the Labour candidate for Mayor.

"The Town Hall has yet to announce the by-election date, but insiders suggest it could be the second week in November"

The date of 9th November was announced to Hackney staff this morning (see post 4625 above)

Boff got kicked out for heckling Braverman's Tory Conference speech.

He was very supportive around the Broadway Market protests and came to a bunch of fundraisers etc. Obviously that was partly to stick it to Hackney Labour but he didn't have to knock about with anarchists and market traders at reggae gigs to do that.

Even the Tories in Hackney are up for sticking it to bigots...

Child Q: Special scrutiny meeting looking at what has changed since scandal broke to take place at Hackney Town Hall from 7pm on Tuesday 25 April 2023 – with residents invited

The "Special scrutiny meetings" looking at "what has changed" since the Child Q scandal broke may need to look at this too.

A 13-year-old boy in Hackney was surrounded by armed police after an officer mistook his water pistol for a real gun.

The child was "rammed" off his bike by a police van and handcuffed as he was confronted by marksmen in Hackney, east London, in July, the Alliance for Police Accountability said:

The Metropolitan Police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, but the Independent Office for Police Conduct told the Metropolitan Police to investigate the Metropolitan Police. The Metropolitan Police cleared the Metropolitan Police of any wrongdoing. A public complaint was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, alleging racism. The Independent Office for Police Conduct again directed the Metropolitan Police to investigate the Metropolitan Police ... but the Independent Office for Police Conduct, having "reconsidered" its decision, has now taken the complaint back to investigate ... independently:

This is the type of water pistol that Child X was playing with as he was rammed off his bicycle by the Metropolitan Police and threatened by police officers with real guns.

"In the light of the mother’s statement yesterday, and the concerns that have been expressed by the local community in Hackney and more widely, we’ve reconsidered our decision and will now investigate this independently."
