Hackney chitter-chatter &tc

I didn't get a leaflet. :( Though explains the envelope if there was meant to be one.
Labour woman looked like a tory candidate, Green woman perhaps the most active of them all, lib dem a dull type, there's some independent and then the silent tory. Oh and of course the tusc candidate

Hackney related , most folk in Hackney will be very familiar with Liverpool St Station, I wasn't there last night but do use it several times a week & it can't have escaped the attention of the organisers that it is a direct link to Stamford Hill.

So, easy for all manner of hackney residents to join such demos

got the council election brochure. noticed that of the 6 candidates, only the Tory had chosen to not bother giving a page to be included. given up already?

I did chuckle at the council's FAQ. "is sending this brochure to everybody a waste of money? we are legally required to."

Got my polling card , plus a leaflet about the candidates , the Tory candidate didn't have any information about him 🤔
Just had a car plastered with Tory posters go past my gaff. With a PA system for announcement in Yiddish... it looked like there were photos of the candidate on the posters, but I am a few floors up.

Also a door knock from someone who was probably Labour (the better half spoke to him briefly and did not identify any distinguishing political features).

It's a pretty low-key election - I went to vote this morning (at Southwold School) and I was the only voter (at about 8am) , I haven't seen any posters, or campaigners, no door knocking, and no tory postered cars (I'm guessing they are just driving around Stamford Hill).

Also, 1st time I've had to show picture ID to vote :snarl:

We've had no leaflets for any of the candidates at all!
I've been in Islington this morning so I missed the Yiddish announcements but I'm sure you are correct about being only in the Stamford Hill and Upper Clapton areas :D

Woodley elected mayor - 18,474 votes.

Simche Steinberger (Conservative) - 5,039
Annoesjka Valent (Trade Unionist & Socialist Coalition) - 1,265
Caroline Woodley (Labour) - 18,474

so both the anti-LTN independent and the TUSC who also promised to tear those all out got <5 % and lost deposits?
good

i think the tory did better than they might have expected if they'd submitted a manifesto

It's all here Mayoral election results | Hackney Council

35% seems normal. But maybe some of the previous ones were also councillor elections.
every previous mayoral election coincided with the whole council election, with one exception of a by-election in 2016 after Jules Pipe resigned to take his role at city hall.
turnout for that one was 18.6%

yesterday's similarly low turnout is entirely unremarkable and what anyone could have expected.

IIRC Woodley's term will be kept short so the next mayoral election is back in sync with the council elections due in 2026.
