Glade 2007 20-22 July

cheers TylerD... sounds like it's a bit touch and go like. Can't believe they can turn it down on noise issues if they can muster 2 people to turn up and complain, 1 of whom changes his mind and withdraws his objection after hearing about the noise restriction measures / function 1 etc

fingers crossed
It's looking very grim indeed now, free spirit. :(

Glade licence hearing thread on GladTalk

The conditions being imposed on the Glade are frankly horrific:

http://www.westberks.gov.uk/media/pdf/n/0/Hearing_decision.pdf

The organisers say they will put out an email tonight with their decision on the Glade. But with those conditions, my thoughts are: "It's Glade, Jim, but not as we know it." :(

cheers for the links

ok I'm pretty worried now like... 5db above background levels at 1 metre from the outside wall of any noise sensitive locations decided by the council is about as harsh a condition as they could impose noise wise IMO

It depends on which houses they choose to use as being noise sensitive, but background noise levels at some of the houses that are in the direct firing line from the PA's (up past the main estate house) at that time of night at 1 meter from their back wall (nearest wall to site) are going to be really low, so 5db above that background level is likely to be significantly below the 65db level (which is already low).

It also sounds like the glade are being penalised by the police for being too proactive on the drugs front last year, handing over too big a dugs haul and too many dealers / people caught with large personal amounts.

The idea of disorder on site being a problem is a fucking joke though, unless things went seriously downhill last year without it being discussed at all among the production team.

they need a new site where they can fuckin pump it until 6 in the morning... our country has the best festivals but the worst councils and miserable cunts

yeah i love that site but if it means they cant play the music loud enough u could have such an easy conversation next to the main stage stack on friday night last year it was ridiculous

The only "disorder" I saw last year was some of Stuart Security (whose blokes all looked, dressed and acted like Nazi skinhead bastards) kicking off with people over what seemed to be nothing at all.

Although given the early spate of tent robbing, which affected some of our crew, I couldn't help but cheer when I saw said security bastards chasing a couple of the robbers across the site.......

Giles..

me! :)

ive never been before and can't wait!

security is by stuart security? oh dear oh dear. they did leeds in 2005, and IMO caused the 'riots'. i was right in the middle of it and it wasn't pretty at all. they were just arsetearing round the site in massive armoured land rovers and beating the living shit out of anyone who didn't get out of their way quick enough. hopefully that doesnt happen at glade as well? :(

i'm surprised they're being used again after last year, although to be fair they did calm down after the first day's OTT shenanigans

The firm who did the perimeter/gates last year is the same, the lot who do security inside the festival is gonig to be different . . .

I reckon I'm going to give it a miss this year. I need to be convinced to go :(
The reasons I have for going are:
1) Loads of mates going
2) The Overkill Tent
3) The Techno
but there are more reasons for not going:
- Fairy-wing overdose
- Psytrance, Breaks and House
- I don't actually enjoy camping
- It's going to be really quiet at night and loud during the day- wtf? Wrong way round!
- Increased police presence requried by the licensing committee; Sniffer dogs at the gates and random seaarches inside isn't good for my blood pressure, paranoia, or enjoyment.
Meh.
I've had fun there everytime I've been, sure. But I'm not convinced.

Some info from FW on the sound systems.

"If things are to proceed as presented at the license hearing, during the day the total power of the systems will actually increase from previous years. They will however be using Function 1 systems throughout the site this year with the noise cancelling technology (as used at the origin stage last year), so the sound should be split (rather than coming from two huge stacks as is traditional) and shouldn't carry as far.

The two largest stages will close at midnight, with the headliners performing before then, but music will continue at the smaller stages and areas through to 4."

from what i gather so far confirmed(ish) for overkill...

-Enduser
-Venetian Snares
-Otto Van Schirach
-Aaron Spectre
-Milanese
-DJ Assault(!)
-Monkeysteak
-Luke's Anger
-Teknoist&Dolphin

Yeah, these are the exciting acts!
Not sure I want to pay £120 just for that though...
Oh, I am so bad at making up my mind

yeah im feeling well indicisive about glade this year, which is shocking cos its always been a definate for me.

its £120!! fuck that, i was thinking twice about £98. off to dour festival i go....ticket and journey there will work out cheaper than a glade ticket

I might just wait till right before the event and see if there's any tickets floating around the net for cheap. Obviously this option will only work if it doesn't sell out, but I've seen it happen with other festivals.

they're doing the whole id registration with the tickets, so you'll need to buy a water bill of the person who's selling the ticket, as well as the ticket itself . . .

(got mine btw)

In an interview with Glade organiser Nick Ladd a few weeks ago, this is what he had to say about the heavy-handed security:

“This was the most serious issue we have had to address from last year,” said Nick. “We are working with the security company to make sure arena security staff are hand-picked - they will be much more understanding of festivalgoers and their needs.

“The security on the outside of the fence - the perimeter security - will be the same as last year. They were very effective in keeping non-ticketholders out of the event, which is good for everybody.”

So basically the heavy mob will be patrolling the outside, where they're needed, and there will be festival-friendly security on the inside. The organisers were very upset about the problems last year and they've worked hard on this issue for this year.

See also the official site's statement on this issue: http://www.gladefestival.com/festival/safety--security/
