an interesting piece here from Ed Moloney on speculation behind Liam Adams stint in the united states that Adams was telling lies about . It was 4 years prior to GA being informed of the abuse. According to the guy who was responsible for providing him with a new identity he was in need of getting some buckshot removed from his head. But the crown forces tend not to use buckshot . How on earth did that get there ? And why was it suddenly so safe for Liam to return less than a year later ? Most people had to go there for good.

As a generalisation I'm not surprised by the pedophile allegations within paramilitary organisations of any description. There will be a faction that will be drawn by the power that they can exert, some of those can apply it constructively, others destructively. theres a programme on tonight on BBC NI , and tomorrow on BBC 4 on the disappeared and its said to be heartbreaking . Adams is accused outright of ordering these disappearances, naturally enough he lies repeatedly through his teeth . But theres an audio recording of the late Brendan Hughes accusing him specifically of ordering the killings and disappearances . Its being broadcast on RTE as well . I think this will actually damage him to an extent . Not within his own sycophantic party but among public opinion .

What McGuinness is reported as saying here is utter bullshit if the court evidence you posted earlier is right. Amazing that he thinks he can get away with this.

It sticks in some throats more than others. AFAIK SF's biggest following in the RoI is among the younger folk who don't remember the conflict much, or at all. The sleek people who read the Irish Times are the most likely to be outraged and appalled by Gerry's record (though they are of course highly selective when it comes to other parties to the conflict), but they're not the demographic SF are courting.

Those of us who saw the horror and fear that was around, either through witnessing first hand or from relatives and friends will never forget.
It infuriates me that young people these days cannot comprehend how quickly these situations can happen.

Exactly. I remember my dad coming home stunned after helping out in the aftermath of the Oxford St Bus bombing (he just happened to be in town that day) almost in tears after what he'd seen. Bloody awful.

Who personally conceived and implemented that rotten strategy . Irish News are reporting today on their front page that hes starting to come under more serious than usual pressure in the south. Enda Kenny having a go at him personally, as well as Miceal Martin and a few others. Some unionists and the SDLP have tried to have the issue debated at stormont but thats been kaiboshed thanks to the sectarian voting rules that mean the shinners can squash any attempt as it doesnt have cross community support.

RTE are reporting over 353,000 people in the 26 counties watched the documentary on their channel, 37 percent of the viewing audience ,with many more likely to watch it on catch up tv. Thats seriously likely to do the shinners real political harm if Adams remains at the helm . Among the general public hes looking increasingly toxic, and the more his party covers for him so do they .

there actually was a much clearer delineation until adams took over. That was how he took over sinn fein, and stayed there. By embedding the IRA within it and turning it into a party militia and away from its core purpose.
