Ibrahim Olutade released from Folkestone after scoring eight goals this season and 17 the season before. Played for Hayrettin at Maidstone and has been predominantly based in Kent for four or five seasons since leaving Leatherhead, but exactly the type of forward we could do with as a more mobile option to Mills and Clifton.

I remember him scoring against us for Tonbridge a couple of seasons ago and thought he looked useful.

I was surprised he was only on the bench on Saturday along with David Smith, who scored a lot of goals for them alongside Ade Yusuff a couple of seasons ago before a move to Bromley that didn't work out.

Think Smith is working his way back from a few weeks out.

Luke Holness has been their first choice striker since joining them near the start of October and scoring four goals in eight games before Saturday, but Olutade scored off the bench the week before against Haringey. Possibly too many decent players for too few spots in their squad.

Hoping Hayrettin took the opportunity to have a word at the weekend...

Looks like Lewes are also involved. They won their first game (at home) with Kalvin Kalala scoring the only goal.

This seems like a competition we should perhaps think about entering if possible? Beano opportunities if nowt else.
We entered the Alitalia Cup in 1979/80, which was an 8 club tournament involving 4 clubs from Italy and 4 from England. (Sutton United were one of the other English entrants, and were the winners.) The format was each club played all 4 foreign opponents once, 2 at home and 2 away, and the teams from each nation with the best record over 4 matches contested the final in Italy. We played at home to Cavese and Campobasso (winning 3-0 and 3-1), and away to Triestina and (I think) Modena, drawing both games, but Sutton topped the English group on goal difference.

No doubt it was a great beano for the few supporters with sufficient time and money to travel, but it basically cost us the chance to be Isthmian League Champions that season. We only lost 3 of our first 37 league matches, were FA Trophy quarter-finalist, London Senior Cup semi-finalists and League Cup semi-finalists. The two away games in Italy were over Easter, we picked up several injuries, and collected only 5 points from our last 5 league matches to finish 3rd behind champions Enfield.

I'd love to compete in this tournament in principle, it feels like a nod to all the club's continental tours of the Amateur age, from the Edwardian era through to the 1960s. The questions are how would we fund it, and is it worth compromising our chances of promotion back to National South? (Personally I'm more indifferent about returning to National South again than I was before we tasted it, but I'm desperate to see us crowned Isthmian League champions.)

It's an invitational tournament. They seem to want supporter owned teams* from England looking at current and past entrants. FCUM will probably always snaffle one UK entry as previous winners.

*As in community owned / Community Interest Club, one member one vote and not a private company owned by fans.

The proper definition in other words. Not the “I’m Mike Ashley wearing a team shirt and I’m a fan so it’s all supporter owned” one.

That’s a nice idea in that case. Fostering stronger links among that community. Knowledge-sharing etc.

Edit to add. The beano / cash point is well made. Almost wonder if there’s a way for home sides to have two games in 48 hours against two different away teams. Then the travelling fans have the option of staying for 2-3 nights and getting an extra game and meeting a new set of fans. Hard to do but, might be a nice way to give travelling fans a bit more value.

Krakow Dragoons are an expat side playing in the suburbs. Krakow is a bit of a groundhoppers delight as along with the two major Krakow clubs there are lots of delightful little grounds to discover all over the city.

Definitely feel that if groundhoppers tour groups aren’t building things around this they’re missing a trick.

That's exactly the point. I've been to the first HFC Falke home match in that competition and know some people who traveled to all away matches as well as the finals in Rimini 2022. The clubs taking part seem to be very mixed up, but they are all owned by its members (what seem to be mainly the players in some cases...).

Marc White, the Dorking owner/manager on TalkSport the other day talking about him having to do his coaching badges if Dorking were to get promoted

I know he wasn't in charge for all but 6 points from 20 games is torrid for a club that presumably have a good budget again.

If anything they got worse after his arrival. I'm not sure how many games he was in charge but their sole league win this season was under his predecessor. They also went 14 matches without a win towards the end of last season before winning their penultimate match 4-3 at Concord, the result that finally sent the Beachboys down a couple of days after they drew at our place.

Havant now have a record of W2 D10 L24 Pts.16 from the last 36 games, which makes our 70 points from our last 70 National South matches look good by comparison. I just hope they don't end up in the Isthmian League. I don't like going there and you can bet they'll be throwing silly money at promotion.

Anyone Dulwich types going to the FSA Awards tonight?

Nominees for The Non-League Award

  • Bury FC – for their work in bringing football back to Gigg Lane
  • Clapton CFC – for their return to the Old Spotted Dog ground in E7.
  • Dulwich Hamlet – for their community work, including the club’s new multi-faith room
  • Frome Town Council – for their work securing the future of Frome Town FC and the club’s stadium
  • The Non-League Show – for championing non-league football at all levels
  • The Shrimpers Trust – for bringing together fan groups at Southend United and leading the campaign to oust owner Ron Martin

Can’t see Dulwich picking up that award looking at some of the other nominees. Obviously I’m going to be a tad biased in the favour of Clapton CFC now I’m wearing their hat (or rather GK shirt now!) but would be a big shock if Bury or Southend fans didn’t get the nod.
