Your favourite non league ground...

Brimscombe and Thrupp's The Meadow is lovely round our way (Hellenic Prem now), very tidy little terrace, one stand and a grassy bank or two, though more the location than its features. Shortwood, the other team in Nailsworth, similar (name too, it's Meadowbank).

Porthmadog with the railway line down oneside and train drivers tooting their horns
Marine FC where you could have a right laugh with the fans all around the three sides of the ground
South Liverpool FC's old ground was a nice one but doesn't exist anymore as the original club went bust and the ground was turned into a Merseyrail station hub.

Always liked Bideford, especially for the incongrous floodlights, paid for by their FA Cup run in the mid-70s.

Exmouth Town are the smaller non-league club I visit the most. My favourite detail there is that behind the small stand on one side there's a 'toilet' consisting of a patch of overgrown weeds and nettles with one of those stripey, coloured beach windbreaks to protect users modesty from onlookers on the adjacent cycle/footpath and passing trains.

Liked for Bideford. My old next door neighbour has been the manager there for a few years now.
My favourite ground is the local team I go to watch when possible. Armthorpe Welfare. Nice ground, brilliant people.

Yes, Sean, I remember him being born. A cracking footballer as a schoolboy. Obviously going to be a professional from about eleven years old. His family are all boxers. His uncle Tommy (MBE) and his cousin Mick were champions in their time.

I grew up watching non league football in Scotland (known as "the juniors" for reasons lost in the midst of time, it's adult men's football). A lot of the old grounds have now gone - the de-industrialisation and subsequent depopulation mean they've often been replaced by more fit for purpose 3G and 4G pitches. They often have much smaller stands. As an example, here's Petershill...

20,000 record attendance at the old ground.

Benburb in Govan. A decent goal kick from this ground would hit Ibrox, or back in the day the White City dog track.

In the time since I've been watching Hamlet I've been impressed by Dartford's set up (bar trying to get out of the car park). Dorking was decent, Wealdstone was tired, Welling wouldn't have been out of place in the Scottish Juniors...

I also attended a few games at Cambridge City when I was at university. Very similar, if smaller setup, to Tooting. Tooting have better food and beer it must be said.

Love Benburb's ground. One of my favourites. I think Pollok is my favourite in that area... absolute beauty.

Not one that generates atmosphere though. I like Dunterlie, a nice wee bowl stadium that keeps the noise in. I should post up Ashfield with the speedway round the side, but not a ground I like.

The depth of my pain that none of you saw fit to mention the magnificence that is Woodside Rd is considerable (but don't worry, I will recover in time :)).

Lewes and Crockenhill are two grounds I really like and in my current neighbourhood Shildon and especially Tow Law Town (my nearest ground) are well worth a visit. The views over the North Pennines from the latter are breathtaking on a sunny Saturday afternoon if you ever venture this far north

I'm presently looking to move to Bideford so it's good to hear they have a decent ground there!

The Hamlet played there a fair few years back now. Nice ground and nice people.

The club were very wary of us, they had been told by some other club to expect a lot of drunken trouble makers, but soon relaxed. The bar got drunk dry, Dulwich lost a tight game but no-one played up and we left with their praise for our fans ringing in our ears.

One of their officials stepped in to say how nice he though the Hamlet fans had been when a non-league forum had a few people whining about Hamlet fans being hipsters and all the usual stuff two or three seasons back.

I quite like Woodside Road and I loved the contrasting colours on the first 3G pitch between the pitch and sidelines. Think I remember Mishi being furious about it though. Someone was anyway and he seems the likeliest candidate.

Is Woodside Road Worthing's ground

I doubt it was Mishi, he was always willing to accept 3G pitches as a moneyspinner for non-league clubs, although the bright red border flush to the touchlines at Worthing was quite strange. The pitch itself was so poor they had to vacate the ground for several months the following season while remedial works were carried out.

Yeah, I meant Mishi, or someone else, being furious about the colour scheme rather than the 3G itself. Been a long week.

I remember Mishi telling me how much he disliked the red border at Worthing, though he liked the club and fans.

I'm sure the contours border was against FA or FA Cup rules at the time, something he pointed out rather vociferously.

What made it odd was that it went right up to the outside of the touchline and it was a very bright shade of red. I haven't been back, as we played them at Bognor, the following season but it looks like the colour has been darkened to make it less vivid on subsequent video clips I've seen. A few big grounds have a coloured apron between the field and the stands but it only starts a few yards beyond the touchlines.

It's horrible
