General Dulwich Hamlet chat

That’s sounds seriously overdramatic. I’m not sure bankruptcy is on the horizon any time soon. Even in the days when we were living hand to mouth with <200 fans coming through the turnstiles we’d have kept Dulwich Hamlet alive even if it meant a team of fans chasing a ball around on Peckham Rye in the local Sunday League.
Unlikely tbh. If the club failed the name would have been owned by the Administrator.

Back then there were some fans of a certain vintage and affluence who were of the opinion if the club realistically couldn't play in Dulwich at a reasonable level, I guess what we now call Step Six or above, it wasn't Dulwich.Hamlet They talked about buying the name to prevent it being "abused." Obviously it never happened so we'll never know for certain.

I always imagined that Dulwich was “against modern football” but I suppose if the “floating punter” is the club’s core target market looks like that’s no longer the case.

When has our club ever done anything to suggest that? How do you even define "modern football"? Aren't promoting social awareness and EDI initiatives, and a commitment to have a women's team playing at Champion Hill, parts of modern football? I don't recall our club (or many others) having a formal commitment to any of those things until the last decade or so.

Dont encourage them! Expecting stag parties to turn up in pink retro spacesuits, carrying an inflatable hipster whilst others dance around them in pig masks like some dystopian Bullington Club initiation ceremony. Meanwhile the club has commissioned Banksy to recreate that mural in the big grey Sainsbury’s depot wall.

I've never seen that amount of six/seven/eight packs at any of the non league grounds I've ever ticked.

Surely it would be easiest to switch off replies on social media if there’s a constant stream of spam, porn and bitcoin 🐂 on there. If these aren’t being moderated I’m guessing genuine queries might also go unnoticed? Surely better to have a DM system in place?

This is still my favourite Hamlet photo from when I was havung the best time following the club:

What’s the general take on whether the manager is still here next season? Does anyone know if he has a contract past this season?

I don't see any reason why he won't be here next season. He repeatedly states how much he enjoys working for the club, and appreciates the backing he gets from both the boardroom and the terraces.

I'm disappointed we weren't closer to challenging for promotion, but I don't see it as a better option to change a manager who built championship winning squads at Grays and Maidstone, as well as being an assistant during promotion campaigns at Luton and Dagenham. Personally I hope Hak will remain, along with a substantial core of this season's best players.

It's only 5 days until the fans forum next Wednesday evening, so hopefully we'll get some clear information regarding the plans for next season.

Yeah I think you’re right PP, he probably deserves another season, you called it that it would be a tough league to get out of. I feel he still very much divides opinion from the fans though. I’ve seen as many god awful performances as I have seen good performances this season and from what seemed like a big and strong squad at the beginning.

What would you give his performance as manager out of 10 for the season?

I'd probably give 6/10. I'm disappointed we haven't done better, but I think any manager undertaking a total rebuild will probably need a minimum of 2 full seasons to get close to where he wants to be.

Last time we were in this division we were the team playing fancy possession based football and often outplaying teams even when we didn't win. Hakan plays a much more direct brand of football than Gavin, and on an off day (of which there have been too many) it has few redeeming features. I've seen teams like Carshalton, Hashtag, Bognor, Lewes etc play nicer football than us on their visits to Champion Hill, but none of them went home with 3 points, a couple finished empty handed, and they're all within 4 points of us either way after 41 matches.

Assuming Hak stays, I expect to be top 5 next year. I won't be sorry if Billericay snatch the final play-off place from Horsham and go up, otherwise they'll surely be a greater threat next time, although their spectacular collapse from being nailed on for the top 5 was hilarious at the time. I'm not so sure Enfield, Horsham, or especially Wingate, will be quite so strong again. Dartford and Dover will find out how competitive this division has become since they were last in it well over a decade ago.

I'd be pleased if Billericay were to get to the play off final, be 1 nil up, concede an offside equaliser in injury time, then loose on penalties.
