GB News: a thread so you never have to watch it

Ofcom's decision with it's reasons is here:
GB News could face sanction after breaking due impartiality rules - Ofcom

Richard Bartholomew: Ofcom did not sanction GB News ''for allowing viewers to question Sunak''. (...) Makes you wonder what else Dan Wootton lies about.

Richard Bartholomew @Barthsnotes
Ofcom did not sanction GB News "for allowing viewers to question Sunak". In fact, Ofcom’s criticism includes the detail that "audience members were not able to challenge the Prime Minister's responses". GB News could face sanction after breaking due impartiality rules

Makes you wonder what else Dan Wootton lies about.

The Ofcommunists decision to sanction GB News for allowing viewers to question Sunak is chilling.
But this is why the channel should have stood up for Mark Steyn, Dominic Frisby, Laurence Fox, Calvin Robinson and yours truly who were all sacrificed on the altar of the regulator.

Understandable that a jilted ex-employee should wish to take it out on both the station and the "Ofcommunists" (lol).

But the fact that the first of the 'related stories' links at the bottom of that Ofcom page is a link to
Misogynistic comments on Dan Wootton Tonight broke offence rules - Ofcom
might possibly have added fuel to his whingeing.

What exactly is a "statutory sanction"?

Are they going to send them a strongly worded letter?

From the BBC link posted by elbows -

According to its website, Ofcom's sanctions could see the broadcast regulator:

  • impose a financial penalty
  • shorten a licence
  • revoke a licence
  • issue a direction not to repeat a programme
  • issue a direction to broadcast a correction or a statement of Ofcom’s finding

I was wondering what Dominic Frisby had done - although I seem to recall he was a mainstay of The Keiser Report on Russia Today 10 or 15 years ago.
Still he has Tweeted a mocking "art-song" about OFCOM - and he's off my guest list!

Frisby is some kind of whacky right-wing libertarian/an-cap, isn't he? He used to be resident compere at Downstairs At The Kings Head in Crouch End.

When Keiser had him on it was usually to discuss Bitcoin from what I remember.
Rare praise here from the FT His third book, Daylight Robbery: How Tax Shaped Our Past and Will Change Our Future, was selected by Merryn Somerset Webb as one of her six Christmas book choices for 2019.[42]

Possibly the last one, unlikely to be the one above, as the programme was unlikely to be repeated anyway.

But, OFCOM is clearly at the point of being pissed off with GBN now, so my money is on a financial penalty at this stage.

I bet they are also nervous about what sort of shit stunts GB news might pull during the formal period of the general election campaign, a period when additional restraints and duties are imposed on broadcasters.

This is another one of those systems that relied upon actors to behave within certain accepted bounds, to play along with a certain sort of rigged game, to 'act in a gentlemanly way' to use the old fashioned framing of such forms of establishment game. And just like we've been told applied to Trump & Co stunts, that particular form of arrangement comes under strain when some parties decide to shift the bounds, to go beyond the 'spirit' of the old establishment competition, to test the rules.

I bet OFCOM is more than nervous, and I suspect GBN will push things well beyond the limits, my gut feeling is that the election period combined with their legal challenge against Ofcom, is their final push to make a bit of a name for themselves, and scream blue murder if they are fined or have their licence revoked.

And, use that as an excuse to go online only, yes there would be a dip in their audience, but also massive savings on the loses they are making, and than they would be free to go as crazy as they want.

It’s not losses, it’s an investment in changing society. I suspect they’ll do what they please during the election period too, and accept the small fine and limp smack on the wrist as just another downpayment on a low-tax fuck the poor libertarian future.

Here's a clip of Dominic Frisby and one Scott Cuparro discussing what happened to Scott in Russian when the Ukraine war started
Weird stuff to joke about - but that's GB News (2 years old clip -xponsored by Ocado it says)

The guy sitting next to him is Ian Stone.

Does he have any qualities I need to appreciate?
This stand up circuit is a bit alien to me!
The last actual comedy I recall actually going to was "Beecham" - a one man show starring Timothy West at the Criterion in 1980.
It was later televised - but they added an orchestra for TV

Tom's bizarre notion that all council tenants will be upgraded is rather Orwellian
never fear his extreme right wing connections helped fill us in on one of the 41 Neo Nazi REFORM candidates
