"Asked whom she admired, Ali included Netanyahu on a list featuring her husband, Harvard professor Niall Ferguson, as well as former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Princeton professor Bernard Lewis."

If that's not trolling, I don't know what is...

I mean, I can understand bigging up her hubbie (even if he is a worthless example of what a historian should be), but Kissinger? And as for Bernard "I'll just ignore half of all the record history of Islam in order to get the info to fit my thesis" Lewis...

this thread has already been derailed enough so fuck it, here's the start of a story I'm going to be working on quite soon

Emergency Session of the United Nations, 14th May 2048
Donald Fenwick, English Ambassador to the UN

Ladies and Gentlemen of the United Nations,
Today marks one hundred years since Israel declared its independence from the British Mandate of Palestine. That 100 years has been the cause of endless war in the Middle East, as well as discrimination and dispossession of the Palestinians who have been denied their rights and put under siege, bombed, harassed and expelled.
Israel was meant to be a country where the Jewish people could escape persecution but instead, the state of Israel has persecuted the Palestinians mercilessly. Most of us in this room can agree that the state of Israel has no right to exist in its current form.
At the same time the Palestinians are hardly an innocent party with their militants shooting increasingly advanced rockets to Israel and using terrorism and suicide bombers as a weapon. It is clear that were the state of Israel to be given over to the Palestinians, there would be no guarantee of the peace and security the United Nations stands for.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the earth is overpopulated with over 10 billion people. The effects of global warming are being felt everywhere with tropical diseases and hurricane force winds now a yearly occurrence not only in England but also our northern neighbours.
Scientists have been warning for decades of the necessity of colonizing other planets, if the human race is to survive. Our technological expertise gives us the possibility of travelling into previously unimaginable distances and areas of the galaxy.
My Government's proposal, Ladies and Gentlemen, is quite simply that we send all Jews in the world and all Palestinians in the world far away from our solar system, using our latest technology. The Jews will be on one spacecraft, while the Palestinians will be on another. In the case that an individual is both Jewish and Palestinian which spaceship they enter will be decided on a random basis by computer.
If we do this, we finally come closer than we have ever been to peace on earth and the beginning of the end of the population crisis. We will be ridding the earth of over 30 million people. And we will now have a chance to witness the settlement of two more planets, something the human race's finest minds have only ever dreamed about.
Our proposal may sound radical but in our view it combines humanitarian and environmental concern with scientific inquiry. And if this operation is a success many more can follow, we can finally begin the colonisation of the galaxy, which is humanity's only hope!
The question is not whether is it right to send the Jews and Palestinians away from our planet but would our children ever forgive us for not sending them away and instead, condemning our world to another hundred years of pointless war? And for that matter, would theirs?
What do you say?

i think your futurescope may have things wrong. in mine i see everyone else leaving the earth leaving it to the zionists and the palestinians.

You've defended Hamas repeatedly - read your posts.

Yes, you said "Zionist paranoia" rather than Jewish paranoia, but this is really just as bad. You prefer to claim that an unstable and paranoid mental state is behind this terrible occupation, rather than capital, land and the interests of the Israeli ruling class.

You wrote a long piece of shite about how some poor Jews became socialists and the rest became "vile capitalists" - that's daft on its own but the cumulative effect of your posts makes me feel like there's something worse behind it. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't know why you feel I'm "lying" about being the youngest poster, especially since you just said I'm an Israeli student. I might not be - it was a joke from another thread, but until I find conclusive proof I'm maintaining my claim :) I'm 26 - anyone beat that?

I doubt anyone on this forum is "going easy on me" - one of the things I like about Urban is that idiocy isn't tolerated, and that's why I'm surprised you had been talking shit for so long unchallenged.

Kalfindin has been talking shit since he started coming onto this thread. He claims that pretty much every socialist iconic would be a Islamic Socialist if they were alive today. He's also claimed that Irish Republicans are considering becoming Islamic Socialists. He gets in a snit about other people's language yet is not afraid to hurl abuse when it suits him. And he completely forgets what he's said before.

Kalfindin genuine question is your real name Pat Corcoran?

But that's not on thread. It's on one I ignored :)

I don't think they are manipulating figures to be honest. If anything this stuff with be underreported. Most crime of this sort never gets reported. And in any case they don't enjoy great relations with hasidim etc (mostly anti zionist) who will be the chief targets for this sort of abuse.

However it is how these figures are interpreted and the political conclusions drawn

A couple of years ago I read through some of their reports. It was a wet weekend.

I will say that they do manipulate the figures and quite openly, but in the opposite direction to what is commonly supposed. That is they actively discourage reporting of anti-semitism on the internet. The reasons for this are clear, they aren't so interested in the absolute figures but of how figures change from year to year (they hype increases and but to emphasise decreases). One of the problems they have is that as more and more people have gone online their figures will reflect the manner in which anti-semites can mass produce their hatred online with emails and tweets and on facebook etc. thus artificially bumping the figures up.

The other major problem they have is that their statistics are self-reported and are thus dependent on the CST's profile and perceived usefulness, and given that they record very minor incidents their gross figures are frankly junk. When I looked at it, I decided the only figures of any use are the various incidents of vandalism, graffiti etc. on Jewish communal buildings. The most serious (GBH incidents) are probably statistically sound but too small to be of any use, and the rest is an unknown and probably changing fraction of the bigger picture.

That's without going into whether they conflate anti-semitism with anti-zionism. But to be fair, they don't seem to make this conflation and they do not use the dodgy EUMC working definition of anti-semitism (even though they like it lots).

So Israel have withdrawn from Gaza, and Netanyahu has made the statement "This was a complex operation that made heroes of soldiers under difficult combat condition"
"There is no 100% guarantee for success but we did all we could to achieve our goal."

Note the Was and Did - so do people think this is the end of this bloodsoaked chapter in the history of Israel/Palestine. Can the Gaza residents once again settle back into a regular life of fear and misery?

What was their goal? To kill as many innocents (mainly kids) as possible? :hmm:

In 1999 NATO launched 2,300 missiles at 990 targets and dropped 14,000 bombs on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, including depleted uranium bombs and cluster munitions. Over 2,000 civilians were killed, including 88 children, and thousands more were injured. Over 200,000 ethnic Serbs were forced to leave their homeland in Kosovo. NATO airstrikes destroyed more than 300 schools, libraries, and over 20 hospitals. At least 40,000 homes were either completely eliminated or damaged and about 90 historic and architectural monuments were ruined. (wikipagethingy)

This was done to control a Rogue state that threatened the Autonomy of Kosovo and was effectivley carrying out ethnic cleansing.

So, it appears that Israel has got off lightly as look what could have happened if NATO had become riled.

So, the question is,

What's the difference between Milosevic and Nethenyahu?
