in Chatsubo
Bugsy Malone - but it does tend to glamourise it somewhat 
Things to do in Denver when your Dead (though I don't think that technically is a gangster movie but Walken is great).
Belly is superb, really dark and it certainly helps if you know your hip-hop as it makes loads of references to various tunes.

Boyz N Tha Hood is the best film of that lot.
American Me is about the latino side of things, but it's pretty cheesy.

The juice in south centrel film had my blessing straight from the "now honey you know theres no positive black female models in this kind of film" line that film is spoof tastic but has the odd moment of brillience in there as well.

ice cube is good in it, but it's a bit of a mess when you watch it back now
fresh is one i remember liking cos it was a bit darker but i haven't seen it for years and years so that might be the same

I think it's held up pretty well.
Compared to Menace II Society and New Jack City it's a masterpiece - those two are like extra mature cheddar, whereas Boyz N Tha Hood is like Dairylea. Or something.

Yeah ok the plot is weak, but the style is cris. I thought it a bit different from the usual fair.
