French pension protests & lack of UK media coverage.

Macron should step down over this, it’s gone on far too long with no sign of stopping. Unfortunately he’s currently busy telling the U.K. govt that he wants fishing access in U.K. waters for the next 25yrs or else no free trade agreement

I've always though that Macron was a pompous little cunt, well out of his depth as PM.

The French didn't vote for Macron, they voted against Le Pen. Hence why he tries to implement changes he finds that he has no mandate.

The CRS have always been very unpopular in France. Enough of us hate the filth in this country, imagine if they had what is effectively a military wing

J'emmerde les flics!

There are 24 hours in the day and you have to sleep for part of it. If you devoted all your waking hours, you couldn't keep on top of what is happening in the world.

Given that we are going through a bit of turmoil ourselves, plus SARS, plus Australia, plus the earthquake in Turkey, plus the earthquake in the Caribbean etc etc I think that the France reportage is getting its share.
How much air time did the protests in Hong Kong receive? They were on the main BBC bulletins almost daily for weeks & yet just 20 odd miles across the channel you have had over a year of protests culminating in fire fighters clashing with the Police. There have been countrywide protests by millions of people but it is not really covered at all in either TV, radio or the papers. The nearest neighbour to the UK apart from Ireland is in a state of near revolution and it hardly gets a mention? I find it all a bit strange and wonder whether D notices or whatever they are these days are in use.

Cui bono is a good place to start, and it is difficult to see how it benefits anyone in Britain not to report.

So it has taken the French fire service to set itself alight to make the UK papers. I thought it would need the re-introduction of the guillotine!

I can't believe the protests that have been going on in France for months & seem to get virtually no coverage in the UK.

There has been strikes across the country by most public sector workers & now the fire service are clashing with the police.

Yet it has taken months for you to bring it up here and only then alongside the lack of coverage. It's as though you don't find it that interesting either!

I'm taking the piss but it does annoy me when media outlets don't report something themselves or find it worthy of comment but a while later do a piece on the BBC not covering it as though it were a travesty.

Facial recognition software will soon be obsolete with this & the corona virus.

I expect one of the reasons the seismic and ongoing French protests aren’t given mainstream coverage is because it’s not in the interests of the ruling classes to give workers in other countries ideas of doing similar especially if the French manage to topple Macron and get reforms that improve their lives.

I doubt that is the reason.

More like the public is bored of it now, and want to follow other events such as fires, impeachment and viruses.

I didn’t say it was the reason, I said I expect it was one of the reasons.

I find your reason very valid also.

It's pitiful how little coverage is given to what happens on the continent, not just protests but weather - there was a huge storm in Germany in the summer of 2018 which paralysed much of the country and not a word in British media.

Don't know if this should be on here or the Police brutality thread.

Second video shows attacks on people in wheelchairs ffs.

Piece of shit Macron still pushing ahead.
The French government will force through contested pension changes by decree, avoiding a parliamentary vote.

In a surprise announcement, the French prime minister, Édouard Philippe, said the controversial measure would be used to bypass parliament after opposition parties filed more than 41,000 amendments to the law in an attempt to stall its introduction.
