first world war trenches in kensington gardens

Pah, me and a mate dug a trench in his garden when we were about 10, sat in it firing air guns at action men. In Plumstead SE London mind so not quite the same....

how about the *yet to be rediscovered* rebels trenches at St Stephens green in Dublin ? there were 4 or 5 dug during the easter uprising I think - so not just London that had its own trenches

My history teacher told us the trenches were dug because Constance Markievicz had heard from her husband (who was a war reporter on the Eastern Front) about their effectiveness. But they weren't much use if you could shoot into them from the roofs next door. Probably misogynistic bollocks.
