I don't know whether they have changed the recipe or my taste buds have matured, but they are definitley not the same as when I was young. I have a craving for them every now and then and always disappointed. Oven chips and spaghetti hoops are the accompaniment for me.

As a side note - did anyone ever manage to cook them without them leaking/exploding?

Probably because the salt and fat content is lower.

And nope, never had one stay intact during cooking :)

loved these badboys as a kid. either minced beef or cheese and ham were the favourites in our house. nom. not had one since I was about 11 though.... maybe even younger... can't say I'd want to again tbh!

Why do I keep reading Findus like it rhymes with Hindus?

That's how its pronounced in Maidenhead 'cos it sounds posh!

Actually I am surprised Heston Blumenthal hasn't re-invented them like he did with the pot noodle. I think I may write to him and to suggest it.

Can't find it online sadly but there is this:

They're not real food, like Pot Noodle isn't, or Mc Donalds.

I didn't like the fillings so I never had them that often. You could probably make your own far nicer ones, even start up a business selling 'gourmet crispy pancakes' or something.

There were plenty in the Streatham branch of Iceland yesterday.

Never ate them myself - partly because they were relatively expensive, and partly because (yet again) the ingredients include stuff I need to avoid. :(

Still at least the Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall programme showed me how they're made - and that's enough to work out a filling which I could have. :)
