Findus Crispy Pancakes

Recently I decided that I fancied some Findus Crispy Pancakes. Initially I thought that these were no longer available. Had forgotten about the fire at the factory, then the company going into and of administration.

What are your thoughts/memories on the humble crispy pancake?

Since deciding I wanted some I have not been able to find them. Tried everywhere round Brixton and Wandsworth, off to Asda in Clapham later but nobody seems to have seen them?

Fillings are minced beef, three cheeses, chicken/bacon/sweetcorn
There was a chicken curry filling and the campaigns to bring it back seem to have been successful.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall did some posh ones Lobster Thermidor, with shallots, bechamel sauce and parmesan, Moroccan Lamb Tagine, with cayenne pepper, apricots and sultanas, and Roasted Butternut Squash and Goats Cheese.

Minced beef are the best ones

They seem to have gone the way of Wagon Wheels though and aren't as big as they used to be.

As Badgers is aware, I have been searching the supermarkets of West Yorkshire in the hope of finding these but alas have only found failure (even in Jack Fulton's).

I'd also like to know if others remember a cheese and bacon/cheese and ham flavoured pancake?

They seem to have gone the way of Wagon Wheels though and aren't as big as they used to be.

The difference now is that you just eat 4 instead of the 1 or 2 your mum would cook you.

Yes! Two or three of those on a bed of mash and beans with a large glass of Ribena was the perfect munchie buster

My main memory of them, other than not particularly liking them, was wandering into my mum and dad's kitchen late one night to find my brother's mate fishing a couple out of his coat pocket and putting them under our grill. Something to do with his mum not letting him grill them at his.

I'm talking easily 13 years ago since I last had them.

Iceland sell them too but I think they are by Birdseye these days.

I don't know whether they have changed the recipe or my taste buds have matured, but they are definitley not the same as when I was young. I have a craving for them every now and then and always disappointed. Oven chips and spaghetti hoops are the accompaniment for me.

As a side note - did anyone ever manage to cook them without them leaking/exploding?
