Survey of one I saw the name and thought possibly empowering career driven rom-com so thought no thanks. The sort of thing I'd watch if it was suggested by someone else or on at home but wouldn't bother else.In the small screen I saw this in though, it was noticeable there was only one man. I do wonder why this is -- Female director? 'Irrelevant' subject matter? Something else? The last time I saw such an overwhelmingly female audience was for Copa '71.
It's definitely not a romcom (I'm interested to know why the name would make you think it was? To me the name makes it sound more like a horror film) and more to do with societal gendered expectations round motherhood than career stuff per se. I'd recommend it.Survey of one I saw the name and thought possibly empowering career driven rom-com so thought no thanks. Yeah, I know that now! I have no idea why I thought that tbh. Just stupidity. I'd only seen it in a listing for a local cinema. It's definitely not a romcom (I'm interested to know why the name would make you think it was? It really made me wtf about the Catholic church a bit. I spent a lot of time wondering how accurate the costumes and setting was, and the procedure, and thinking about how and why the church had allowed it to be made, as it was presumably filmed some of it at the Vatican?I found Queer frankly very dull. I thought the early bar fly casual pickups were the best, but once he met the guy he was infatuated with I lost interest.
By the time they got to the jungle I was willing the film to end quickly. Agree the jacaranda shot was really good. I suppose this was very deliberately different to Challengers. Was a shame as I liked the idea from the era it’s set in, the setup, though I didn’t have an idea of the plot. A few walk outs where I was which I found odd, if you’re not comfortable with the sex scenes then you would surely avoid a film with the title.
I’ve not seen a trailer for Nightbitch and I’m uncertain if it’s being shown locally, which I suppose is part of the same problem Sue mentions, a woman director making a film about a woman probably gets into fewer screens
Just out of Conclave. Enjoyed it, though some of the imagery, chessboard, prison like environment of the conclave, bird in a cage and a few other things that would be spoilers were laid on thick. Still, a “film for grown ups” as apparently the genre is known well acted with impressive sets.
It was all filmed at Cinecitta, which is an absolutely massive studio complex in Rome.It really made me wtf about the Catholic church a bit. The Universal Theory
Quite a quirky film and original film based around physicists and multiverse theory set in the Alps in 1962. Almost completely in black and white, I was reminded of Darren Aronofsky's 'Pi' (although I haven't seen that film since 1998 or so) and elements of David Lynch's Eraserhead. I was intrigued by it and feel like it is the kind of oddity that is destined to be revived at repertory cinemas in some 'mad scientists' triple bill.

Why?Not seen any of these yet, but it has to go to Palestine, surely?
Why?
Because what?Because.
Why?Because what?
I didn't say it should - it was an expression made that in light of current horrors in Gaza and the West Bank, it would be surprising if it didn't.Don’t be a dick. I genuinely want to know why you think a film you haven’t seen should win an Oscar
Perhaps I am naive to expect the winner to be chosen on the basis of meritI didn't say it should - it was an expression made that in light of current horrors in Gaza and the West Bank, it would be surprising if it didn't.
Sometimes sentimentality wins out over merit. Awards ceremonies, y'know.Perhaps I am naive to expect the winner to be chosen on the basis of merit
No need to endorse such a practice all the sameSometimes sentimentality wins out over merit. Awards ceremonies, y'know.
Indeed. No need to endorse such a practice all the same
You just did!Indeed.
Perhaps you didn't comprehend the expression I used. No endorsements were made. You just did!
‘It has to go to Palestine, surely?’ is pretty unequivocal.Perhaps you didn't comprehend the expression I used. No endorsements were made.
Perhaps the wording could have been put better. Anyway, I have already explained myself, your honour.‘It has to go to Palestine, surely?’ is pretty unequivocal.
It's a shame your audience has dwindled a lot, lately.Behold a coward dishonestly backing out of a hastily-formed unsustainable ‘opinion’
