Fat White Family & various offshoot bands (Moonlandingz, Insecure Men, Warmduscher, Pregoblin etc)

I agree, to a point... definitely if you look on big festival stages you won't find anything inspiring. It is still there in tiny niche scenes though, that look inward with no desire to break into the mainstream. Whether it is worth the effort to seek it out just depends on the individual.
sure, im sure there's still good bands in the corners, but rock used to be such a dominant force, and there are still huge crowds willing to go to festivals and stand infront of the john peels stage etc

Heres what was on at Glastonbury on that stage:

DARLIA 11:00 - 11:30

are any of those any good/relevant? More so than FWF (these things are relative after all)? One thing is for sure, I cant imagine John Peel ever playing King Charles on his show.

leaving the FWF out of it for a minute I think rock music might well be up shit creek at the moment - its not something i follow, but as i said on the Glastonbury on the Telly thread, the guitar bands i saw on that who got their sets filmed were pretty awful, and the general mood of music they were dishing out did feel like the rock spirit had long ago died. Glastonbury isnt really a rock festival, but still...

... which is exactly why FWF are important right now...

They are the real deal.

I don't really know any of those bands. Brian Jonestown massacre new album is good, they've been going since the 80s though. I guess by law of averages most of those bands won't be very good, but it's not really fair of me to say without giving them a go!

Its as easy as searching the thread by posts by that member, no actual counting

Ah, missed the other posts.

That john peel stage lineup is shocking. I don't think it says anything about the state of rock music though, just about the lack of imagination of whoever programmed the stage (it looks like some 'BBC Introduces' filth)

When I click the 'replies' link I can't see how many replies I've put in. Can someone let me know please?
You've now posted 69 times in a thread about a band that you say you don't like, mainly attempting to damn them for something that was supposedly said by one drunken member in a pub over a year ago.
Well there was a bit more to the accusations then that one incident IIRC but lets not open that can of worms again!

LYKKE LI 21:15 - 22:15

Lykke Lie is better than the FWF, as for relevant depends what you mean, I think you could argue that Chvrches fall into that category, personally I'm a bit meh about them but I can understand their popularity.

I feel bad that noone here got to see them before they got trampled into the post zeitgeist dirt.... I probably should have mentioned them, don't know how it slipped my mind.

I stumbled across this lot in a tiny dingy venue in Shangri-La (Glastonbury) by complete accident in the wee hours. Was everything rock n roll is supposed to be - charged, filthy, trippy, lush, and actually a bit scary. The vocals were on some kind of delay effect. Band members and audience were all tumbling over each other in what seemed like slo-mo. Tasty fare.

Sadly I missed SL , I saw them both at Williams Green on Friday and John Peel the following day , the first was much better , they are definitely better suited to a smaller stage . I know they are different bands in style but they got the same sort of re-action as Palma Violets last year , on a small stage they still seem part of the crowd , still rooted to old fashioned unembarrassed rock n roll , I hope it lasts .

Whilst I can see the reason for all the publicity that they're getting, I still personally think they are fucking awful. Their was a lot of press about the Malaysian airlines plane getting shot down, doesn't mean it was a good thing. All the provocation is masking the fact that they're songs just aren't that good.

You're either a master satirist or unhinged. 10/10.

is Meat Raffle a band, or will there be an actual meat raffle?

I used to love those. You sometimes got a theme, like English Breakfast where they'd put a couple of eggs in too. Or a barbecue. Not an actual barbecue, just the meat. I even saw a fish pie one once that had a couple of eggs and a potato thrown in. Low rent really.
