i think that blokes a racist. For those words to come together in your head never mind spit them out is to me the sign of a racist, pure and simple. Dont think im being contentious there. "They" may not be racist, this bloke Saul (or whatever his name is) clearly is -.

I really don't think there is anything 'clear' about it. We have one quote on a forum from someone that did not even hear it, it's a quote that easily could have been meant in another context and we have no idea if he was misheard, or stated something badly or was aping someone else or anything.
Now, he may well have said something awful and you might be right, but there is nothing 'clear cut' about it at all.
I am quite willing to believe he was being a dick, enough even to get barred, but I certainly have not garnered enough info here to shout '100% racist'.
If you mean saying the N word? Well just saying it does not make you a racist. The rest, as I said, could have been taken out of context (or at least very badly placed satire by a drunken twat, who knows?).

I can remember a night where I was an amazing tool and said some stuff to two Japanese co workers that could have been taken as racist (I cringe now just thinking about it). Lucky for me I don't think they took it that way, I think they just thought of me as a prize dickhead.

Anyway, I can verify that I am 100% not a racist, but by your rules I would be. A racist with a mixed race daughter.

Really not having a go at you personally, but don't you think it's at least a little curious that several people from several establishments have already stated they've found one or more members of the band unpleasant, and at least on this occasion, prone to racist outbursts?

i could not care less about people finding anyone just "unpleasant". this racist thing is a whole different accusation, and there has only been one accusation i think i'm right in saying? maybe they have pissed other people off for a load of other reasons but i am not bothered about that, just bothered about this one thing which just doesn't fit with what i know of them.

i see where you're coming from - im going to keep my nose out of this from here on in - i had my back up already as am a bit stressed from still struggling to pay my winter/spring gas bill and am feeling tetchy. Will say though that the accusation has been made on a public forum that soon will be coming up high if you google "Fat White Family" (currently on page 2 of google) - if it was me and it wasnt true Id want to put it right immediately. If it is true then i stand by my opinion - the comment is offensive and racist and feeling tetchy or not i was offended.

As someone who has known the guys from the FWF for a long time, I was horrified to come onto this forum and see them being accused of racism. While I agree with everything Atomic Suplex said, there are two more points I’d like to make before I go on my way.
1. I believe you’re accusing Saul, right? Saul is Jewish. His bandmates Nathan and Lias are half Algerian, of Muslim descent. They’ve experienced racist slurs first hand all their lives, and deplore it. Of course, being an ethnic minority yourself doesn’t give you a free pass when it comes to bigotry. Some of the worst racist bigots are from traditionally oppressed groups. But I know the FWF as people, have held many substantive discussions on these issues, have been privy to their candid, honest thoughts (not just one potentially misheard drunken comment), and the idea that they are racist is absurd beyond belief.
2. As has been mentioned, this is based on rumour, right? What some bloke in a pub says he heard them say, which somebody on a message board is now repeating. Sounds trivial, but it will appear whenever people search for the Fat White Family unless you delete this defamatory horse shit.

Right, so the fact that one of them was chucked out and nearly given a few good kicks up the arse is of course all a misunderstanding, and it's the publicans/other punters around who're to blame.

Also, no-one said THEY were racist. Several people have however commented on their belligerence and unpleasantness.

WHAT??? that is ENTIRELY what people are up in arms about. if someone had just called them "belligerent and unpleasant", or jsut being chucked out of a pub for being lairy, then it would be no big deal, i wouldn't be arguing against it. but the fact was someone came on here and accused them of racist behaviour, and i think it says something that anyone who knows them finds this totally astonishing and unbelievable.

There's a difference between an accusation of a single instance of racist behaviour and being racists. One person has been accused on here of saying racist shit. The rest of the band have variously been lauded and derided, but that hasn't anything to do with racism.
