Fastest lap of the M25

I would start at 2:30 or 3am on a Sunday morning.

Probably on a Hyabusa which should be able to outrun police cars and bikes.

You’d have to pick a night with low cloud cover or fog so that the EC145s out of Lippets Hill or EC135s from further afield weren’t flying. But then it’s likely the roads will be wet and/or their will be fog in the river valleys…

What about if rather than it just being you and your Busa against the police, what about if you had other assets on the board. What about if you had loads of pace cars on the M25 which could assist you, what about if you also had loads of other motorbikes spaced around the ring? And you could also have drones.

What about if these assets knew all the exits from the M25, not just the junctions but also the tracks and police access tracks etc etc The drones could pick up the police setting up a road block and the bikes could direct you to an exit and the next entrance after the roadbock,

You aren't going to set anything like a record time if you have to come off the motorway and then re enter it.

The government could close it as a road and declassify it for four or five nights a year from midnight to 0400 and then use the payment system at Dartford to charge an entrance fee like the Nurnbergring. Charge people £500 a pop and make them have private insurance for ambulance, fire extraction and medical costs (like the Nurnbergring). Extra revenue could be raised by selling the video footage, proably to Red Bull; then the rest of us could laugh as lots of twats write of £50,000 worth of uninsured motor at Stains...

You can’t do a full lap of the M25 and you never have been able to as the M25 is not, and never has been, a complete circle.

The missing part of the circle is, of course, the A282 that runs over and over the Thames at Dartford.
Although the actual tarmac is continuous so a kind of Mobius ring road :p

But all Tarmac is continuous, and with the service tunnel part of the channel tunnel that means, all la Tolkien that the road out side my house goes to Vladivostok…

Army though isn’t it. Because it’s obvious to have aircraft that only exist to move soldiers about operated by the RAF whilst ground attack aircraft should be flown by the army….

I like your thinking. :) It certainly largely takes care of plod spoiling all the fun, although there could be risks of full course yellows which with just 4 hours track-time could take care of a promising lap. But I suppose that would be the case with normal roads also.

Hmm, if there was no recovery a single crash could quickly turn into a road block which would close play. I think there would have to be recovery.

Assuming it was a run what you brung, what do you think would be the fastest vehicle? I think an Endurance race car could be quicker than an F1, and sadly I don't think a racebike would compete! just not enough rubber on the road..

They could do recovery by using armoured vehicles to push the burning wreckage to the sides.

Dedicated vehicles for the win. None of that FAI bollocks.
 
hmm, I just naturally assumed a race would be clockwise!

Why did I assume that and is there any logic to going clock or anti-clockwise?

I suppose clockwise the distance would be greater ..
 
To do it in 45 minutes you would have to average 156mph. Sounds implausible.

Google it and you get substantial debate about this on PistonHeads forum. Some people say it is impossible. Others that it is just about feasible. Sub 1 hour was relatively common, and there was a bumper sticker indicating that. The 45 minutes was apparently a Porsche 911 Turbo in the early 1990’s (different to what I earlier thought, which was late 1980s).

Which suggests to me that 45 minutes could be well beaten, because at Le Mans I see 911's tuned for race being passed by cars in the faster classes as if they are going backwards.
