Euro 2024

So help me, I've just agreed to watch the Scotland match with a friend. Who's a massive fan (she's just back from Munich) and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Scottish football.

So, what are our chances against the Swiss? Any fun facts I can throw into the football conversation? Or should I just go for the drinking lots to get through it tactic? Help me out, football fans!

(I've known her for a very long time so she obviously knows I know fuck all about it.)
I think it could be a draw . Scotland need a result after the German game .So Scotland really need a win , however a draw might still mean its possible to qualify. Scotland had a good run to qualify although they fell off in the last four games. The Swiss aren't mugs .

The drinking route is the best ,a few nods of the head , absolutely is a good response ,any comments regarding refereeing agree with and pop in a few comments about var ruining the game.

I love football however if I had company round I wouldn't bore the pants off the person I was watching it with tbh.

Best advice is take a couple of bottles of sparkly, a box of Thornton's Continental and some Haagen-Dazs.
If that doesn't cheer her up then nothing will...

I'm not sure the pub would appreciate us bringing our own. And we're both more beer than sparkling wine drinkers.

Anyway, I've just had a call with a German colleague in German football top. Meant our meeting finished early cos he was off to watch their game.

Watching Portugal work around having Ronaldo up front was interesting because it seemed like a more mobile front man would play better to the strengths of the side - but they're stuck with Ronnie, whose pace left a little while ago and seems to be playing a target-man role for their side.

Jota, Leao and Ramos would be a pest and be able to keep up with other. Couple of times in this game Portugal broke forward and CR wasn't in the middle when his team mates got to needing his presence.

It's not over but it's nearly over for him, but Martinez won't drop him and the Portuguese FA won't either.

Actually, Portugal's biggest win in the qualifiers was without Ronaldo, and of course they won the Euros without him. The debate over his role in the team has been a regular issue for years tbh However the main issue in the Portuguese press wasn't Ronaldo but the selection in which it seemed like Martinez was trying to cram too many big names into the team and playing players in unfamiliar roles which led to some very weird positions. The British press has more of an obsession with Ronaldo than the Portuguese press. I agree with you that there is a lot of depth in the squad and I think tactically there will be changes in the next game , Palhinha ( at Fulham ) in midfield will be one of them.

Poor Slovenes unsurprisingly looked gutted. Paid a bit of a price for the Cowley brother sides tactical injuries I reckon, God hates that. Cards were flying second half too.

He'll be able to argue that "Thank for goodness for that" doesn't appear in the banned words and phrases list.
