Euro 2024

And scrap that nonsensical rubbish goal line technology, too. The idea of cameras to see whether the ball actually crossed the line or not when you can have a referee 30 yards away without a good view but able to make a snap decision
No, I like that. I haven't seen supporters complain about it, have you?

Whether supporters complain about something isn't always the best measure of whether it should be implemented though. The great majority of supporters agree wholeheartedly with VAR when the decision goes in favour of their team, for example, only disagreeing when it goes against them,

True , however polls conducted by supporters clubs show that they don't like VAR . It's a great pity that we don't have in the EPL and other leagues greater supporter involvement ie recognition of supporters clubs, representation of supporters clubs on board and a duty to consult via an agm. The recent decision made by the EPL on VAR had no consultation of supporters whatsoever.

I think the VAR has been used well so far, not like the shambles in the prem. Quick and quiet, decision up on the screen for the stadium. I think the on field reffing has been pretty decent too. Serms to me a decision was made to play on advantage over free kicks. Added time allocation has been sensible as well imo.

Yep EPL is shit I think all agree. VAR decision making has also been shit which is I'm fairly sure why supporters have rejected it. I can understand why VAR has been so shit - there are so many hair-line decisions for fouls in a game which is fast paced and with tens of thousands of fans screaming that each VAR decision is right or wrong depending on which team they support.

I'll be interested to see what supporters think at the end of this season if VAR is improved as it has been in the games we've had in the Euros. Fast accurate decisions, clear modeling showing whether someone actually handled the ball or tripped someone.

Jesus the 'vic's' today is killing me even more than the game the other night. Must be commentator's worst nightmare. Not the prettiest of languages.

have you thought of contacting the Croatian football association to persuade them to simplify their names?

The polling that I saw revealed that those who just watch on TV were more likely to support VAR , those who go to the games nope . This reflects the fact that football is based around TV rights not supporters at the games who are just background noise . Hence the constant reform of who qualifies for televised competitions and rule changes for televised football .
We will probably won’t know what games going supporters think or want as they are not consulted .

So help me, I've just agreed to watch the Scotland match with a friend. Who's a massive fan (she's just back from Munich) and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Scottish football.

So, what are our chances against the Swiss? Any fun facts I can throw into the football conversation? Or should I just go for the drinking lots to get through it tactic? Help me out, football fans!

(I've known her for a very long time so she obviously knows I know fuck all about it.)

You'll be converted after Scotland come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the 95th minute.

Seriously though, if she knows you don't know anything then what's the problem? Just cheer on Scotland.

Well we did beat the last time we played them in the Euros back in 96 when Fat Sally McCoist scored.

I need help on the complicated 'we can still go through if X team unfeasibly beats Y team by nine goals and Z team is struck by lightening' calculations.
Oh right. So they lost to Germany by shed loads. Hungary lost to Switzerland.

Top 2 of 4 go through, plus the best 4 3rd placed teams out of 6 groups. So even if they lose to Switzerland, as long as Germsny beat Hungary then they might be OK.

Tell her that when they're 2-0 down at half time. :)

They'd probably have to beat Hungary by a lot. But don't mention that.
