I think it's more complex than that, different texts were preserved in different regions. I think the idea of Europe as uncivilised barbarians vs the enlightened Islamic world is a misleading as the inverse.

It's actually not that bad.

It would make no sense to teach another language's numerals so if you don't know that English numerals Arabic then no is a perfectly reasonable answer.

If someone aksed if Chinese numerals should be taught in English schools, the answer is obviously no as it would be daft. In short stupid question that tells us very little.

Oh yes and the question is obviously designed to trick people.

Question is ambiguous. Although the English number system is called ‘Arabic’, there are also numbers within the Arabic writing system that are also Arabic numerals.

I have literally taught Chinese numerals in an English school and any daftness was down to me, not the topic.
