Is it just me but isn't this likely the most important case the EHRC has ever been involved in, and this development one of the biggest sell-outs?

Equality watchdog drops its backing for low-paid women’s legal challenge

Thousands of low-paid women, including cleaners and care workers, will see their hopes of better pay set back tomorrow when the equality watchdog drops its support for their legal battle.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is withdrawing its backing for a court case that will determine whether local authorities have the right to delay paying women the same amount as men in order to avoid cutting the wages of male staff.

The commission’s sudden change of position is because of the “mess” on equal pay caused by the deluge of discrimination cases pursued by no-win, no-fee lawyers - even though it is accepted that many town halls have dragged their heels on equality.

I can't say that I'm surprised - Trevor Philips completely fucked off the CRE legal test case strategy when he took over that august body - they went from pursuing ~150 cases a year down to about 1 or 2, which was rather embarrassing for their highly paid legal department.

Yup if there was any more proof needed who's side Phillips is on then it could be seen on Breakfast news thismorning. The man has turned from a journalist to a slurper of new labour / business anuses. Was defending a plan to reduce employment tribunals on this matter.

Why is it that every thing NL turn their minds to turns into a corrupt incompetant porridge.

Yes I must admit I'm not that surprised either, more alternating between righteous fury and sad resignation, which is what living under NL has become for a lot of us.

well essentially it's because it's all corrupt incompetant porridge to start with it's just nu labour decide to rebrand it and have a big fanfare launch to the new brand each time, and the fixes they put in place are akin to paint the skirting boards whilst the walls collaspe...
