Crap or not

I don't like his music, but different strokes and all that. And he seems nice enough. What I really don't get is the hordes of screaming girls. Genuinely baffled how anyone can listen to that style of music and get so excited they're fainting. It's like screaming for Phil Collins.

Who did you scream at, Sam?

Don't tend to play music radio at home, I've never knowingly heard one of his songs. I guess I must have somewhere.

The anti Sheeran viermence does baffle me. There's tons of shite music out there, it's quite easy to avoid. Less so I guess if you have kids I spose. But who likes their kids music anyway.

I had to look him up to check what he sounded like. Nothing in particular is the answer. That Jules Holland thing was badly conceived and poorly rehearsed, but he's done perfectly average music elsewhere. Hard to have any feelings about his music. Back in my heyday there were a million artists a million times worse than him. Bland pop used to be the staple and now it's just another niche and why not let it be it's thing.

Just on try to mix soul/rnb with folk music. Probably don't try this in general as they're opposites in terms of how the singer approaches the song. In Irish folk the singer should be sitting in the corner not drawing attention to themselves and singing like an angel. Let the song do the feeling, let the audience get lost in it. The tradition Joy Crookes is coming from is about jazzing it up and showcasing your talent which in this context looks like sacrilege. But I think she's perfectly good with her own stuff, and I'm pleased I've used this opportunity to give her a listen.

I quite like some of his songs and it's good to see a talented youngster being successful. It wouldn't bother me too much if I never heard of him again but most of his most vocal detractors are "I hate mainstream music" dickheads who pretend to like weird stuff because it makes them feel superior; or part-time/ third rate musicians, who are just jealous at other's success.
Nah, I love pop and I think Sheeran is absolute toilet.

His success baffles me but I’m not jealous. I think he makes a huge amount from property which I also find disgusting.

weird is not a pejorative word in my book. you are so narrow minded that you assume people must be pretending to like something just cos you don't. I think that about sport too, mind.

I've got to say, hating Ed Sheeran is probably a bit unnecessary, there's not really enough there to get emotional about. It's like hating Carling, or Fords, or ready salted crisps.

I've just remembered a friend of mine did this last year. I laughed, but I have a shit sense of humour :D

Actual Ed Sheeran crap...

Well...I must be the exception to your rule...
I actually don't think he is as good as The Beatles. I have heard better buskers on Grafton street than Ed. Dont get me wrong, he is a nice singer. And some of his songs are nice catchy tunes.
I think he got very lucky.
I would not pay to hear him or see him.
I don't feel superior for saying that...

But he absolutely ruined Raglan Road...and smirked all the way through it like he didnt grasp the meaning of the lyrics. He is a crowd pleaser...not a brilliant musician and as someone else posted earlier, he is the best of a not great set of musicians that are presently popular.

Yes..he is ABSOLUTELY brilliantly average. 😁👍

This is the kind of stuff I’d expect from Orang Utan

I don't hate him, or like him. I manage to miss a lot of his stuff. I really don't understand why so many people get so angry about him as he seems inoffensive and easy to avoid. I think they annoy me more than him.

He I'd a gig for a local Bristol charity a number of times I think.

Didn't know about the property though so that's a bit shit.

I dont hate the guy.
I just dont see his music as better than the Beatles.
And I dont understand how he has gotten to where he is in terms of musical notoriety.
Nothing personal at all.

It’s obscene.

He destroyed Raglan Road.

Literally putting the Belfast agreement into jeopardy.

Luke Kelly would be turning in his grave.

I hate that. I know this, but at the end of Irish Girl (in and of itself turgid and dull), he actually 'diddly eyes' on the outro...

Anyway, he's that ilk of English/British/Irish male singer songwriters with an acoustic guitar, along with the likes of James Blunt, Damien Rice, Newton Faulkner (stayed at my parents b and b, bit of an arse) et al. but unlike the others hasn't fucked off yet.

My nephew is a big fan, and he also looks like Edd The Duck, who was a good egg, but we also have the music and the property fuckery on the other side of the equation, so I'm reserving judgment for now.

Hmmm. What is "weird stuff" and how do people pretend to like it?
