John Oliver can probably be let off the hook here, Trump had been blabbering about running for president since Oliver was still in school - and actually got as far as running for a few months in the 2000 election.

I seriously thought that America might be ready for a businessman president, someone with an eye for the bottom line, someone who has created thousands of jobs and isn't part of the ''inside the Beltway'' buddy system. I also thought that Americans might be ready for straight talk and that they would find an unscripted candidate appealing.

Jesse Ventura's victory in Minnesota served as my model. A nonpolitician celebrity who spoke uncommonly straight to the voters, Mr. Ventura came out of nowhere to beat two experienced, big-name politicians at a time of economic prosperity, and he did so as the nominee of a fledgling third party.

...Although I must admit that it still doesn't compare with completing one of the great skyscrapers of Manhattan, I cannot rule out another bid for the presidency in 2004.

This is well worth a watch from the election night . Thought it was just good viewing generally, enjoy the straight talking and seeing the reactions as the entire disaster unfolds in realtime . but what struck me is some of the commentary ...angry invective frankly..directed at the white poor for not voting for Clinton .." losers " ..stuff like that. Just every now and again ..but fuck me . That's a seriously bad attitude . And how it veers from blaming men for misogyny in not electing Clinton to speechlessness when they find out how many women voted wrong too .

I dunno what to make of it all, just thought its interesting viewing . Serious amount of bad language though for anyone with sensitive ears . They go absolutely mental at the democrats for losing to this clown .

The thing is with this stuff is that even when it is unsaid in quite such explicit terms, which is almost all of the time, those on the receiving end of this sort of invective know that they are thought about in that way. What is fascinating to me is how the almost exact same terms of abuse are used in so many different contexts, with the exact same effect, the only countries in which things differ are ones with a strong left like Spain and Greece because in those countries the class animosity generated by this punching down is channeled (at least to an extent) in support for the left. French middle-class left-wingers or liberals sound exactly like British and US liberals before Brexit and Trump, they have learnt absolutely nothing.

Then again I suppose that I should not be surprised, the FN haven't won yet, Brexit won and so did Trump and most UK and US liberals have learnt nothing from either of those ruptures. In fact many have doubled down and gotten much worse.

That video I posted that had Maher in it the other day had that left wing guy from redneck country literally shouting at these idiots " do you want to win ? " . If wikileaks didn't publicise the e-mails which showed corruption and rigging then wouldn't they have been actively helping the Clinton campaign? What would be credible about that?
