...presumably this is why they kept Joe Biden off the ticket...

What are we going to do about Creepy Uncle Joe Biden?

This Joe Biden?

Biden attacks Trump for boasting about not paying taxes - video

There was strong talk about Biden running, Obama even offered to help personally fund it, but after the death of his son to brain cancer he's focusing on fundraising and campaigning for better cancer treatment as a post whitehouse career. Can't argue with that.

Trump has gone full Millhouse on us

Hey Millhouse was cool.

From The American Conservative:

Maybe you’ve seen the 1992 video clip in which Donald Trump chats with a group of little girls at Trump Tower. When they leave to ride the escalator up, he says, “I’m going to be dating her in ten years. Can you believe it?”

My daughter turns 10 today. If a grown man said anything like that about her in my presence, I would slug him. He would have revealed himself as a lecherous pervert. Trump saw that child only as a potential sexual conquest. That’s not the same as a pedophile, but it does reveal the depths of his narcissism and his inability to see women — even little girls — as anything but potential sex partners. He allowed Howard Stern to refer to his own (adult) daughter Ivanka as “a piece of ass.” Any normal father would have belted Stern. Not Trump. Because he’s a pervert.

It was a perfectly calibrated speech, right words right tone. Same time, don't know whether this says more about me or the cynicism that politics generates, I have a feeling that anyone at the heart of the Clinton campaign must be delighted (rather than appalled) at each new revelation.

sorry ...closed my eyes ...and I could hear the exact same wavering warble as Tony blair used in his peoples princes wordsalad post diana death .....

uncanny ...and totally unigate

Interesting article. It points out how, when public figures lambast Trump for his sexist comments, they often begin by saying 'As a father of daughters'.

The author questions why it's necessary to establish one's credentials as a father or husband, before denouncing Trump's entitled sexism and claims of having committed sexual assault. The author makes the point that any right thinking person, regardless of marital status, or parental status, should be shocked, angered and disgusted by Trump.

a few american comedians have pointed this out, the repub condemners laying out the family man credentials for no discernable reason. One wag said 'I'm pretty sure most people in america have at least one female relative'

It think the reason they do that is because their politics is all centered around self-interest. Many of the modern members of the party are Ayn Rand devotees. She was all about that. When things like this come up, they have to set aside their self-interest for a microsecond. The line "as the father of daughters" makes doing that tolerable and acceptable. Taking care of your family is quasi-self-interest and gives them the opportunity to claim family values at the same time.

but surely trumps sexism benefits all men.

I don't think we should be fooled into believing anything they say. They're just seeking to avoid looking like monsters, and maybe get some political traction too.

(I'm getting cynical in my old age, aren't I?)
That aspect of this nonsense has made me laugh, I must say. They can't even do something as seemingly simple as condemning an obvious sex pest without putting their collective father-of-daughter, son-of-mother, husband-of-wife, feet in it.

ETA:

Of course, the bit that isn't so funny is that the way they put their feet in it is by defining women by their relationship to men, in this case them. They don't even know they're doing it, seemingly.

is that a joke?

I suppose. It was a reference to (as Orang said) another thread though. I stopped trying to make the point there as it seemed inappropriate to flog the dead horse of what does or does not benefit all men on that thread, however I couldn't resist saying that here because Yuwipi alluded to my own thoughts on the question. You have to first buy into a strictly self-interested vision of human existence where we are all first and foremost Consumers before you can allow yourself the idea that something that doesn't target you directly can have a negative effect on your "user experience"... for example Trumps sexism bums one out because "I have a daughter", or "Patriarchism negatively effects my user experience as a man because it impinges on my freedom to choose to buy and enjoy wearing a dress or to be sensitive". If you don't buy into the narrow self-interest view of life, it's possible to think something like sexism or patriarchy suck in and of themselves, or suck because they are against the general nature of what a human or human society is more generally. But that would imply concepts not defined by market orientated thought.

Don't agree. I know her speech was gold for Hillary but that doesn't mean it wasn't important and real what she actually said. And it needed saying.

I agree with all that and that there were genuinely expressed emotions in her speech - in fact what decent person wouldn't genuinely believe the things she said? It's just, well, what would have been the reaction of the Clinton team this week as all these stories came in? There'd have been genuine disgust at trump - along with a bit of 'processing' and thinking how it could be used (as well of course as the issue lurking in the background of the behaviour of the last president who went by the name of Clinton).

I think they knew about Trump all along. They do share the same NY social circle. That kind of behavior is generally known, but not commented on. They just couldn't have their fingerprints directly on it when it landed (not surprisingly) a month before the election. That doesn't preclude genuine disgust at his behavior.

assuming trump loses, i cant see him taking defeat gracefully - he - and his supporters - will be shouting fix and conspiracy. The republican party will turn on him but he'll retain a core support of fuckwits - potentially violent fuckwits. What will trump do next? - keep campaigning to "make america great again" ? Or will his time be taken up fighting lawsuits/prison/bankruptcy? cant see any tv networks wanting him on their payroll.

His ego won't allow him to try and get a senate seat, that's for sure.

This is my hope. May he end his days broke and/or behind bars. Then promptly be forgotten.
