Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

"Liberal media elite", "Smug liberals"......Those are right wing phrases that are repeated constantly on right wing hate radio. That article is nonsense......making excuses for Trump supporters & blaming the rise of Trump on liberals. The responsibility for the rise of Trump lies with right wing Republicans & those who follow them......and Trump. Just consider what his supporters believe. But then articles like that are written by smug elite liberals I suppose.
Poll: Two-Thirds of Trump Backers Think Obama Is Muslim

You used two phrases. The first appears only in the headline. The second nowhere. You did not read this piece.

I'm not sure if the article is obliged to do any of this.

There's no obligation; but it seems to follow that if the writer is going to attempt to debunk the usual reasons given to explain who it is supporting Trump and why, the usual approach would be to present us with the writer's theory as to what the explanation is.

OK. Can you expand on that a bit? I honestly do not understand how anyone could read that article and come to the conclusions that you have come to.
I think the author is trying to find some explanation for why so many support Trump & has found an easy answer that the elites in the media look down on them. She's got it backwards IMO. They don't support Trump because they are looked down upon, the are looked down upon because they support Trump & the things he's saying. I was raised in the Midwest among white conservative church going Republicans. So many went to church & then came home & spoke negatively about the welfare bums, niggers, Jews, Mexicans & even Catholics. I don't recall anyone feeling looked down upon by media elites.

You def haven't read it. She's saying they don't support trump. The very first section makes that clear ffs.

Who is it who supports Trump then?
What is the best way to define his fans?

It is a large segment of the US. Even after all of this.
It's men.
It's white.
What else do we know?

Anyone got any idea of who's going to turn out to vote? Is this election really a done deal? I don't see a lot of enthusiasm for Clinton, other than for being not-Trump. Maybe there's not a lot of enthusiasm for Trump either among regular Republican voters, but there is evidence that he's energised people who don't normally vote, ever. Legend has it that in a low turnout, Republicans do better.

I think some of the most energized voters are going to be Latinos, who could make all the difference in some states - early-voting requests are up 77% among Hispanic voters in Florida.

I think there'll be a lot of women who vote in a way their Trump-supporting husbands don't know or expect.

Apols if already posted, but he's now suggested one of his victims wasn't attractive enough for him to have assaulted:
Donald Trump's defence is to demean accusers: 'Look at her, I don't think so'

Jesus fucking hell.

At the same rally Trump also warned darkly about Clinton meeting “in secret with international banks to plot the destruction of US sovereignty in order to enrich these global financial powers”.

Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the Anti Defamation League, promptly denounced the statement, which bore similarities to antisemitic tropes like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion:

Although Trump has not made any explicitly antisemitic statements his campaign has been fervently supported by the “Alt-Right” – an antisemitic internet subculture – and has adopted “America First”, the slogan of groups opposed to US intervention against Nazi Germany in the 1940s as his own motto. The Trump campaign has not responded to multiple requests for clarification from the Guardian.

Positioning himself as a champion of the little man fighting global financial elites whilst at the same time constantly talking about how rich he is and how cleverly he's avoided paying tax is quite something.

Wasn't meant to sound uppity sorry. Was hoping to get a view on what it is that might make the same demographic as really want Sanders' ideas move toward Trump.
The assumption that harsh economic conditions and speed of change inevitably lead to people (white working class people/ men) wanting to vote for Trump is something that could do with untangling.

This is worth a read

Despite Donald Trump, Many Bernie Sanders Supporters Won’t Forgive Hillary Clinton

And this piece by piece analysis on the candidates includes the observation of Trump as a " closeted progressive " and Clinton as a " closeted fascist " .

I’m a Bernie Sanders Voter: Here’s Why I’ll Vote Trump

if he loses I hope someone does the 'you're fired' line on him

I really hope he ends up as some kind of shuffling dogsbody helping out around the Clinton's home, a bit like Biff in Back to the Future.

(I think I can grit my teeth and ignore the relevant class politics of such a situation)

That's it! Damn!

That makes sense thanks, but must be only a smallish segment of the people planning to vote Trump who are doing it for those reasons?

I read something last week about some young, female left wing blogger in the states who has 60,000 odd followers , a long time Sanders supporter , who'd publicly switched her allegiance to Trump just recently . Also been reading a fair bit of stuff going right back to the beginning of the Trump campaign were polls of his supporters were much more likely to define themselves as " liberal " and even " very liberal " than followers of the other candidates.

Can't find the exact piece but this article sort of backs it up .

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/428353/trump-doesnt-represent-conservative-base-jonah-goldberg

The hypocrisy and u turns in his current rhetoric compared to his previously stated positions is a joy to behold . But again it ties in with that earlier piece describing him as a " closeted progressive " .

And then we even have this guy, founder of " Black men for Bernie "

WHO COULD HAVE EXPECTED THIS: ‘Black Men for Bernie’ Founder MADE A MOVE THAT WILL GIVE STROKE TO HILLARY!

I think there's a raft of different reasons why people will vote for him but ultimately, whether from left or right, it all boils down to a hatred of the political elite in the US . Something Clinton is the absolute personification of .

That top article says he's basically just pretending to be the man we see. He's a decent bloke really :
"Until recently, he was for higher taxes on the wealthy, taking in Syrian refugees, and single-payer health care. .In 2012, Trump condemned Mitt Romney for being too harsh on illegal immigration. In May of this year, he attacked “publicity seekers” who needlessly provoked Muslims.."
If that's true then he's done a great job, fooled me. But it's irrelevant, even if he doesn't really believe all the things he's saying that is still what he's decided to sell.

I think Trump only believes in one thing, and that's Trump . I don't think he has any actual beliefs . Hes left wing one moment, right wing the next often according to his mood at the time , while at others its blatant political opportunism . I think he has some instincts, as opposed to beliefs, that are creditable. And others that are downright disgusting .

Clintons beliefs and instincts though are just murderous and maniacal . And get worse as she gets older .
