Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

Trump campaign does something relatively innocuous that normal people won't care about in order to get media liberals to rant at Trump hysterically and shore up some sympathy, liberals oblige... part 364

I didn't see "hysterical ranting", I mostly saw mockery and mirth at the sheer ineptness of it all.

He is putting political satirists out of a job because nobody can top this.

Yes I don't think that people outside of the media bubble and a handful of political obsessives give a shit about this, do you?

I do, yes. Lies, half truths, plagiarisms and all that are very much scrutinised. Unless u75 does not cater for that sort of thing?

Sneering and mockery has worked so well against Trump in the past, it's bound to this time though!

All the concerns and anxieties people have, the world over, concerning this dangerous individual becoming PotUS... it's all just down to sneering and mockery?

Yes, he is otherwise a very great and strong high energy leader.

Or perhaps this focus on Trump's wife using a paragraph of a speech that someone else had written for them at an event held by probably the most dangerous political party in the world is an odd choice more fitting the narrative of a reality TV show than political analysis, and being well aware of the way in which the media works the Trump campaign has exploited that for the umpteenth time.

Oh, it was deliberate???

How is he "very great" and HiNRG?

Turning the candidate's wife into a laughingstock is not what the Trump campaign would have wanted, hard to imagine them finding much use for her on the campaign trail now. Before the plagiarism was spotted, the media narrative was more about the nation finally getting to know Melania and her journey from Slovenian supermodel to possible First Lady.

Trump's ghostwriter weighs in with his thoughts on Donald Trump:

Mr. Schwartz, a former magazine writer who said he worked on the book because he needed the money, told the writer Jane Mayer that he painted Mr. Trump in the most positive light that he could, thinking that a sympathetic character would be better for the book’s sales than a story about a cruel tycoon. If he could do it over again, however, Mr. Schwartz said the book would be titled “The Sociopath.” ...

He’s a living black hole!” Mr. Schwartz said he used to tell his wife after long days with Mr. Trump. He described Mr. Trump as a painful interview subject who could not handle questions that required any depth to answer and who had little recollection of his youth. When pressed, Mr. Schwartz said, Mr. Trump would grow fidgety, angry and sometimes quit despite the fact that they were ostensibly working together on the book. He had no attention span, Mr. Schwartz said. ...

“Lying is second nature to him,” Mr. Schwartz told The New Yorker. “More than anyone else I have ever met, Trump has the ability to convince himself that whatever he is saying at any given moment is true, or sort of true, or at least ought to be true.” ...

Now he's officially nominated it's all only going to get worse :( I still struggle to believe that it's really happening sometimes, it's already so very far beyond farce and self-parody etc

Dubya & Co already took it to that level in the past so to get beyond really requires something special.

On the face of it Trump has at least Nixon-level potential for bringing the office of president into disrepute should he somehow manage to win.

The best comparison for Trump is the Barry Goldwater campaign in the 1964 election. Goldwater was the Republican candidate; and he ran on a platform of race-baiting and fearmongering.

He lost in a landslide, and as a backlash to his campaign, American blacks started shunning the Republican Party, and have overwhelmingly voted Democrat, ever since.

Some Republican commentators believe that Trump will cause a similar setback for the Republican Party.

Maybe I'm just way too cynical nowadays, but like with the EU referendum, I thought it was too stupid to actually happen, but with the fallout so many of the 'sensible' people just turned so awful that in a way it has been kind of a good thing to stop this zombie government.
Hillary Clinton would be awful as well, I kind of go along with the conspiracy theory that Donald Trump's real job is to make Hillary Clinton palatable

It is the conspiracy theory that makes more sense than reality at the moment.

Like a boxer bribed to go down in the 5th but goes back on the deal and wins.

There's one thing that gives me hope: we're talking about a country that has just elected a black Democratic president - twice, with healthy shares of the popular vote.

Is that same electorate now going to turn around and elect an opportunistic, egotistical, race-baiting goon?
