Donald Trump's 'Star of David' tweet controversy, explained - CNNPolitics.com

Really?

I'm really enjoying the 5-38 podcast, very good for US politics junkies with a focus on polling.

What are they predicting right now? I looked at them a while ago. Nate may be good at 21st century US elections but 538 seemed to get 2015 UK hopelessly wrong and shied away from Brexit. Maybe that's what happens when it becomes a corporate ESPN tool rather than Nate himself? Dunno. Anyway, what's their latest best guess? Sorry, hard statistical analysis. ;)

Good. Trump picks a right wing nut job. What a surprise.
Even in conservative Indiana they don't like him. Repubs hope he'll be Trump's running mate so they can get rid of him since he'd likely lose re-election as governor.
Indiana Governor Mike Pence — who frequently refers to himself as “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order” — believed that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) would mobilize his conservative base. Instead, it created a backlash that has effectively torpedoed the Republican’s chance at a national office.

According to a poll conducted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), signing the RFRA has led even led to a significant erosion in popularity in Indiana. As recently as February of this year, Governor Pence enjoyed a 62 percent approval score. Since the passage of the RFRA, however, his unfavorable rating has crept up to 53 percent, while his favorable rating plummeted to 38 percent.

Nate Silver's model recently put it at 46%-54% Trump - Hillary.

I posted a definitive list of his policies by topic above. Anyone who thinks Trump is going to be less of a warmonger, is probably not going to be encouraged by Mike Pence as a running mate.

This is the guy that will probably be Trump's VP candidate:

Mike Pence on the Issues

  • Voted NO on supporting democratic institutions in Pakistan. (Jun 2009)
  • Voted YES on cooperating with India as a nuclear power. (Sep 2008)
  • Voted YES on deterring foreign arms transfers to China. (Jul 2005)
  • Voted YES on reforming the UN by restricting US funding. (Jun 2005)
  • Voted NO on keeping Cuba travel ban until political prisoners released. (Jul 2001)
  • Voted YES on withholding $244M in UN Back Payments until US seat restored. (May 2001)
  • Member of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus. (Jan 2001)
  • Keep sanctions against Syria until WMDs are dismantled. (May 2007)
  • Member of the Silk Road Congressional Caucus. (Nov 2007)
  • Member of House Foreign Affairs Committee. (Mar 2011)
  • Withhold UN funding until voluntary and program-specific. (Aug 2011)
  • Rated -6 by AAI, indicating a anti-Arab anti-Palestine voting record. (May 2012)
  • Sponsored bill supporting demonstrations against Iran. (Jun 2009)
  • Commitment to unbreakable U.S.-Israel bond. (Mar 2010)

That's his foreign policy chops. Interesting vote on Cuba. Not really sure how much help China need in the arms game these days. Not really sure what to make of all that tbh.

What I'd really like to know is his thoughts of the Don's commitment to torture.

If someone signs on as a running mate, that usually means a commitment to their policies.

BTW, I don't believe the army when they say they'd refuse to obey such an order. They had no problem with it before. All they'd need is the right political cover.

I'm hoping it's not Pence for the reason Tom alluded to, Pence might well lose the governorship and he could seal Indiana for the Dems in the process.

The clown show (Rebub Nat Convention) begins tomorrow in Cleveland. First night features the Benghazi "scandal."
The New York Times reports, meanwhile, that the first night of the convention (next Monday) will involve "a Benghazi focus" and that at some point there will be "a presentation detailing former President Bill Clinton’s sexual misconduct."
There's also heavy representation from the party's inflammatory wingnut/conspiracy-theorist/"political correctness" caucus: Carson, Newt, Giuliani, Pam Bondi, Mike Huckabee, Milwaukee sheriff David Clarke (who is black but believes Black Lives Matter is a hate group).
Republican Convention Will Feature Benghazi Night, All of Trump's Children, Tim Tebow

It very well could be. He's not very well liked there.

He's also a good match in personality to Trump. He's the turtle to Trumps hare. (Or hair;))
