Donald Trump the road that might not lead to the White House - Redux 2024 thread.

I read something about how huge numbers of people who would have been eligible to vote, haven't registered this time - is this because of voter suppression or something else?

What was the context?
He'd tweeted out some shite, as usual, (can't even remember what now), and I was a bit quick off the mark in replying coming something like 3rd in the list of replies with my simple one word reply...and he/they liked it for about half an hour until it was unliked.

Let me tell you, you made a very great tweet there. A tremendous tweet. Believe me.

People, many people, many many people, have told me it's the best tweet they've ever seen. It's the best tweet there's ever been in any country ever.

Someone on my work messaging thing posted a message earlier (visible to thousands of people in the company) saying they hoped the election would go well (given she's a youngish woman who lives in NYC and is sound can guess which way she's voting.) Loads of people then did blue heart/donkey reactions to it. Wonder if it'll still be there tomorrow.

i can remember when he first oozed onto the scene in an interview, by the Wash Post or someone, and he was just looking at them blankly, and to almost every question he was just saying "fake news!" "fake news!". and, politics aside, i thought wow that is such a dangerous, lethal game to play. You are playing with the "shared narrative" in a very insideous way. There's one thing fighting facts wtih facts, but just outright dismissing it all is somethign else entirely. He's basically accusing people of lying, and by doing so: lying. without shame, over and over.
These were pretty inocuous questions put to him - but still, he wanted to set the ball rolling, that it's all a ploy to get poor him. I am sure you can all remember it, the "fake news!" years - where everything was"fake news!" so you have fairly well established legally bound [though of course with bias, with own interests. etc] news organisations, and individual journalists, totally discredited, without any grey area at all. and listen now to his supporters, their trust in institutions, especially media ones, is completely broken, almost completely absent. Instead you have in their place whirling hell holes of social media grifters, lunatics, and charlatans. the average trump supporter, i dare to guess, could do no worse than sitting down with teh NYT or the Wash Post and reading it, front to cover, every day - and yes apologies if that sounds elitist, perhaps it is slightly. But no, instead, the whole thing, the whole operation, is consigned to teh trash bin, largely because of this orange lunatic.
And when you destroy the worlds of truth, facts and the rest, what is left isn't a viable construct for running a country. When just about everyone he appointed as a cabinet member or a general comes up against inconvenient 'facts' or fails to take a fall for him, they go from being 'good people' to being the enemy, fake and the rest, without transition. All those sackings are what happens in a dictatorship, but are also the problems of running a ship of fools and lies. Something has to give. Ditto networks like Fox from loyalist to enemy in the blink of... well, whatever it was they fell out over.

And then, amusingly, there are the likes of Giuliani, who is willing to let the contradictions of working for Trump tear him apart. Stays loyal even to the point of bankruptcy, even when Trump stiffs him for $2m.

I fucking love Trump. In a very very twisted way. I couldn't take my eyes off his increasingly deranged rally last night. He's the most batshit fucking politician. Ever. Ever. He needs to be sectioned. Although even that probably wouldnt stop him running next time. If being a convicted felon doesn't, then mental health... pooh. Who cares....

remember, it's ALL bullshit

A federal judge rejected a Republican request to stop seven Georgia counties from accepting absentee ballot returns at election offices over the weekend and on Monday. Voters can return their absentee ballots in person until 7 p.m. on Election Day.

The Trump-appointed district court judge said the complaint “does not withstand even the most basic level of statutory review and reading comprehension.”
