Donald Trump the road that might not lead to the White House - Redux 2024 thread.

I always thought that that was a strange title, that underplays the magnitude of the the disaster.
there is some dispute as to whether it was Lords or the publishers of his book that came up with the title. He has said he wanted to call it 'One Cold Night in April' but on the DVD commentary he says he came up with the title at...a very specific street corner in New York.

Either way, they (Lord and the publishers) agreed they didnt want the word Titanic in the name of the book title, but did want something understated and more lyrical.

One night in April would have been a good title.

Fourteen Days In May is a good title of film that had a massive impact upon me.

I saw Three Days of the Condor at the cinema, but I have often had difficulty in remembering how many days were referred to in the title.

a plausible theory

"he’s a deadbeat and unwelcome in towns and cities across America. That’s why his rally in Montana this week was held in Bozeman rather than Billings. He’s unwelcome in Billings. Wary towns now want him to pay in advance and guess who’s falling behind on fundraising while paying hundreds of millions of campaign dollars on legal bills?

Albuquerque, NM had to send Trump’s overdue bill of $211,000 to a collection agency in 2021. As of 2020, La Crosse, WI is still waiting for over $13,000 for multiple visits."

what a Christian man he is.

Well, if the photo is faked, there's also faked video footage, other faked photos from multiple people, faked confirmation from Getty - well, I guess everything is faked except the Don waving to adoring crowds as he exits planes etc.
In any case it won't matter that they weren't actually faked if Trump circulated a photo that was altered by AI to make it look fake, and none of the MAGA lot will pay any attention to any other source of information let alone the lamestream meeja.

Key Points
  • Elon Musk’s much-hyped interview of Donald Trump on the social media platform X was quickly derailed by technical glitches.
  • Musk blamed a cyberattack, saying “There appears to be a massive DDOS attack on . Working on shutting it down.”
  • After nearly an hour of troubleshooting, the conversation eventually kicked off around 8:45 pm E.T. At least one million people were tuned into the interview, according to the X Spaces tally.

Trump is hopping from topic to topic, without much pushback from Musk.

One minute, Trump is talking about national security:

If you’re a history student, the first thing you learn is you cannot let Russia and China align. But then they also got, if you take a look, Iran, and they have North Korea … they call it the Axis of Evil. In the old days, you had the Axis of Evil. Here, we have a modern day Axis of Evil. These are powerful countries.
Next he’s downplaying the severity of the climate crisis and dismissing Joe Biden:

The biggest threat is not global warming, where the ocean is going to rise one-eighth of an inch over the next 400 years … you’ll have more ocean front property, right? The biggest threat is not that. The biggest threat is nuclear warming, because we have five countries now that have significant nuclear power, and we have to not allow anything to happen with stupid people like Biden.
And then back to national security, specifically Russia and his much-repeated assertion that he could have stopped its invasion of Ukraine:

You know, Russia defeated Germany with us, and they defeated Napoleon. You know, they’ve been around a long time. They’re a big fighting force and it’s very unfair. And Ukraine now doesn’t have enough men, they’re now using young men and very old men to fight, and … we’re in a very bad position. And I’m not going to blame, exclusively, but I can tell you, I could have stopped that, and a smart president could have stopped that.

Musk offers a sympathetic ear

This is very much Donald Trump going through his long list of grievances with Elon Musk listening patiently and sympathetically.

He’s again lamented the loss of President Biden who he clearly wanted an election rematch with.

He says “this was a coup, this was a coup of the president of the United States,” in reference to Kamala Harris taking Joe Biden’s place in this race.

Previously he’s called it unconstitutional. None of this is accurate, but what’s interesting is that Trump has never accepted his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.

This is probably the closest we’ll ever get to him admitting the truth: Biden won the White House legitimately.

Not surprising that he's getting more and more annoyed:

Donald Trump’s social media network is losing money just as the former president and convicted felon has resumed posting on X (formerly Twitter).

Trump Media & Technology shares dropped to $24.60, their lowest price level in months, after Trump posted on X early Monday for the first time in more than a year. Shares may drop even further as Trump is supposed to sit down for an interview with X CEO Elon Musk Monday night.

The plummeting stock comes after many investors bought shares in the media company hoping for a boost during the 2024 election, with a possible Trump victory netting an even higher increase. Trump Media reported a loss of $16 million in its first full quarter as a publicly traded company Friday, earning just $836,900 for the period ending June 30.

It’s the latest run of bad news for Truth Social, which is rapidly losing users.

apparently, too, he's been flying round in Epstein's old jet for his campaign but it's ok now because the company he rented it from says it won't do it again

It seems he can't even find a 'decent' dodgy firm of accountants...

It’s the latest run of bad news for Truth Social, which is rapidly losing users. It was expected to be an easy money grab for Trump, who owns 60 percent of the company. But even the company’s net loss of $58.2 million in 2023 had to be reaudited after its accounting firm was charged with “massive fraud.” At the very least, Trump Media’s meager numbers last quarter were a huge improvement from the previous one, when it lost an astonishing $327.6 million and only brought in $770,500 in revenue.

:D

Jesus that was an insane listen. Comparing Harris to Melania.

And he bizarrely complimented Harris for looking “beautiful” on the cover of Time magazine, comparing her to his wife, Melania, while noting that the image was a sketch.

“She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live,” Trump said. “It was a drawing, and actually, she looked very much like a great first lady, Melania.”

And he bizarrely complimented Harris for looking “beautiful”

not bizarre, part of his pitch is to enforce reactionary stereotypes.
the writer may think it's bizarre because he said it of harris, but again, he's trying to colonize her into his categories.

I don't think there was any compliment to Harris there. On the contrary, what he was saying imo is that the sketch looked nothing like Harris, that it was much too beautiful. Basically implying and adding 'ugly' to the 'bitch' he called her last week.

Who could have expected this?

Trump is set to take the stage at Asheville's Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Wednesday after paying $82,247.60 to the city for a "last-minute" rally, according to Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR). The campaign, struggling to effectively blunt the momentum of Vice President Kamala Harris, reportedly first contacted the city about the rally on August 8.

While the campaign paid in advance due to Asheville's policy for short-notice bookings, Trump has a long history of failing to pay cities for billed rally fees, leaving the White House in January 2021 with at least $850,000 in unpaid rally debt. Most of the bills are still unpaid, including more than $500,000 owed to the city of El Paso, Texas.
...
The Trump campaign booked the smaller of two venues at the same complex in downtown Asheville for Wednesday's rally. The Thomas Wolfe Auditorium has a capacity of just 2,431 people, while a larger arena next door that is not hosting Trump has a capacity of 7,200.
