Hey, I’m here to enjoy this ride now. We’re used to powerful, rich, privileged people getting away with whatever they want and Trump has been the most flagrant offender possibly ever. If somebody with Trump's psychology had been born poor, he'd have wound up dead or in jail by age 20 at the latest. But Trump's wealth and social capital has shielded him from any accountability for his actions for over seven decades. But cheeto Mussolini flew too close to the sun. Now his wings are on fire and he's falling headfirst into a steaming pile of shit. His ego prevented him from forming a broad hegemonic bloc amongst the various centres of power within the rightwing elites. The liberal establishment, the old republican guard and the conservative legal movement are closing ranks to crush him. His halfwit followers and crackpot lawyers can't save him now. Let's just enjoy something for once. Think how infuriating it's been watching the rise and rise of narcissistic bully. I was largely unaware of what a cunt he was until I saw the You've Been Trumped documentary in 2011 and since then seeing his bewildering rise to the most powerful political office in the world has been a brutal experience. But the fall will be exquisite. Bring it on.

Yeah I agree with this. What I think is wrong though and people have tended to do on this thread is to assume that he wins because of things that enrage his core support more. To win he needs more votes than last time and/or for Biden to get less. Both are possible but they're not the result of people getting ever closer to matching the shade of their stupid hat.

I kind of agree with this. But voter and activist motivation is a factor in elections and a more enraged bases tends to be a more motivated one. So I don't think those things can just be dismissed.

Yeah, realistically who knows, but the federalist society turning on him is pretty significant imo. Without allies in the judicial system, you can't get very far in the US.

Yes fair, part of what I'm getting at though is that there's maybe a distinction to be made between the hardcore Trumpists and the Republican base more widely - and obviously there's a big overlap but they're definitely not the same thing. He needs to be able to count on the habitual Republican voters not just the hardcore Trump fans who'll vote for him anyway and does getting indicted for a long list of stuff help with that?

Trump did their bidding while in power. He stacked the Supreme Court and federal courts with Federalist Society hand-picked judges and got Roe overturned. Now they've used him for what they need they're kicking him to the curb. They are absolutely despicable pricks. I saw the FS's John Yoo railing against Trump the other day. This is the guy who wrote the infamous 'torture memos' in the G W Bush era, legally greenlighting the 'enhanced interrogation' of inmates at Guantanamo Bay. But still, just how brutally they've thrown Trump under the bus is absolutely hilarious. No honour amongst thieves. I wonder how many of Trump's co-defendants will get flipped in his RICO and conspiracy indictments!

Abigail Jo Shry, 43, allegedly phoned the court in Washington DC on 5 August and used a racial slur in her message for US District Judge Tanya Chutkan.

In the call, Ms Shry allegedly told the judge, who is overseeing an election conspiracy case against Mr Trump: "You are in our sights, we want to kill you."
Prosecutors say Ms Shry added: "If Trump doesn't get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you."
