Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

Them scriptures mean anything you want them to, especially as they have been gently massaged over the years to nudge in the favour of those that published them

When you compare versions written in different time periods and for different groups the meaning can change radically. The five books of Moses translations done by Christians are different than the Chumash translated by Jewish scholars.

I ran into one of these Christians the other day that is intent on converting everyone. He told me that Jesus never commanded them to do anything except to go out and convert people. He never said that you had a duty to care for anyone but yourself. I suggested that he needed to read Matthew Chapters 5-7 and get back to me about that. Jesus very clearly instructs people to care for the poor, visit people in prison, and welcome the stranger. I swear these modern Christians haven't actually read that bible they're so fond of thumping.
In my experience they're also most likely to describe the bible as the "literal word of god". Like all those middle eastern people 2000 years ago were talking the King's English.

You imply that they have been changed/deliberately distorted beyond recognition. This manuscript, containing a complete New Testament, goes back to the 4th Century:

And copies of single New Testament books go back even earlier.

I could never get my head around how the centerpiece of the New Testament part of this supposedly literal, unchanging word of God consists of the gospels - four separate accounts of the life of Jesus with lots of inconsistencies between them.

Just my 2 cents. I think 'they' (Council of Nicaea?) would have certainly known that when they put the four seperately authored gospels together. I think they were chosen as canon because of how close to eachother they were alongside whatever parameters they judged their 'credibility' on. Whereas there is the apocrypha that was left out by the early Christians.

"Leviticus 20:9 – Disrespect towards parents is disrespect towards God.
For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him."

As I don't spoil my children I sometimes get negative comments from them. As such, my understanding is, to follow god's true word, I should take my children to the gates of the city and allow the city elders to stone them to death.

This doesn't strike me as a tolerant or loving religion.

theres a lot of mad shit in leviticus tbf. When trump was signed in he swore on a dead presidents bible and his mothers bible. Where was his copy eh?

Jesus could be pretty gangsta…

Luke 19:27.

New International Version
But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”
