I dislike ironing. I drift off into whatever is bothering me the most. I associate ironing with childhood chores, washing and ironing was my job. I have my own cheap IKEA iron but last year inherited 5 irons and a steamer/tank iron from my parents. This thread is incentivising me to test them all to see which are working. 2 tested so far and both work.

I also have a small garment steamer. I haven't used it yet.

The last time I ironed anything was more than 10 years ago.

Years ago I was given a small, very small and neat travel iron which also did steam.

It was quite a cool thing and I did used to take it on my travels.

I have no clue what happened to it or where it might be now.

Yes, I often wear shirts so it’s essential.

Also I have a washer/dryer which means things like sheets and pillowcases come out pretty creased after a non-tumble dry so again, an iron is essential.

I have loads of work to do today. In fact, I've had loads of work to do all week. Some of it I have done, eventually. The rest I have to do this weekend (all my own fault).

So my prognostication to avoid work this week was:

1. In washing cushion covers I discovered that they actually will need ironing. So that started my search for a working iron. Also, because they are smallish I don't want to move things to access large ironing board. So instead of putting a towel on a surface (hurriedly pushed from my mind) I start looking for a small tabletop ironing board or sleeve board. I wanted to spend no more than £10 and some of these things are ridiculously expensive. Anyway to cut a long story short I went to Wilko who were out of stock so I put back the other essential (not) items that I had picked up going around the store and went home. Decided I didn't need a tabletop ironing board. That wasted about a day.

2. Irrelevant to the thread but I have also wasted about a day trying to find a piece of hardboard in the size I need (yes I know B&Q will cut them) and still not found.

3. Reading this thread and starting the process of testing irons. I have now cleaned these irons but not tested them all yet.

No, I still haven't started work. And no, I still haven't ironed the fucking cushion covers.

Reckon the last time I used mine was to iron a shirt for a funeral that I went to a couple of years ago. And that'll probably be the reason I use it next as well.

I only iron as a last resort if garment is too wrinkled. Mrs SFM OTOH is a sewing and crafting type so the iron is never far from her grasp.

Rarely use iron since I retired. Had to iron work trousers and shirts when working.
Ironing board is a bit of a nuisance to try to keep out of sight.
Someone should invent a collapsible/folding ironing board which can be hidden away.
We've a small portable one. Handy.

My wife claims, with no basis in fact as far as I’m concerned, that you should never iron a shirt right way out - only if you’ve turned it inside out is it safe from whatever toxic iron-ghoulies she’s worried about (I think she mentioned something about brown water marks from the steam outlets)

I don't hate ironing I just never actually do it so when it came to needing a new iron, I never bought one.

I live in a small flat and it's not just an issue storing an iron and board but also space to actually iron that doesn't smell of cooking etc.

I have a pair of linen trousers and a linen dress but when washed, I give them a good shake and dry hanging up in my bedroom.

Also I feel rumpled suits me better than sharply pressed. :D

I used to have a linen suit with sort of pleated trousers

It was very comfy but I always felt I was dressed like a dealer when wearing it

No idea where it is now, might have gone to charity :(
