Disney + streaming video recommendations thread

I couldn’t make it through one episode either - but it’s quite intimidating when all the media reviews are so over the top positive.

I was 90% gone when it opened with the shagging scene in the Concorde bog. Then it was just a matter of time before I got worn down by the hammy/zany acting, which I can’t abide. Just not my cup of tea.

I never thought they'd make me dislike David Tennant but he's awful in this.

Aiden Turner keeps reminding me of Mike Wozniak and I'm not upset by this.
Well, his character is anyway. He’s anything but as an actor, and his public persona at least makes him come across as a thoroughly likeable bloke.

Sounds interesting, is it like Succession?
I've not seen Succession!

Rivals is based on a Jilly Cooper novel, she was also involved in the production of the TV show - it's set in the '80s and is a bit of an overexaggerated hammed up and faintly ridiculous pastiche of the era full of toffs and rampant capitalism in the TV broadcasting industry and everyone is thoroughly dislikeable and there's a lot of boffing.

Oh. JC of the bonkbusters infamy. Hmm.

Succession is fabulous. The characters are truly awful, but the writing is so sharp, so brilliant that it becomes essential viewing. I was expecting Dynasty and got I, Claudius instead.

I realised last night that the actor playing Rupert Campbell Black reminds me of Buzz Lightyear which has rended him enitirely sexless 😂
Robbie Rotten was our go to.

We're two episodes in as well. Love it. Stupid, bit Carry On but all done with a knowing wink.

It took me 2 episodes to work out that I recognised one of them from Poldark, the moustache completely threw me.
(I am moderately face blind).

I am so glad Rivals is good. It was my introduction to JC. My future wife and I found a copy in a holiday place we were staying in years ago and we read aloud it to each other, complete with all the accents so it's always held a special place in my heart.

I’ve been the first to completely disagree with critic reviews, but you seldom see almost universal critical acclaim for any film or series that is genuinely shit. Okay to hate it, but when you have everyone from the gutter press to respected critics from highbrow publications salivating over it, it’s just not going to shit. 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating is rare indeed

Well, I’m sorry, but I don’t just not like it. It’s actually really, really awful. I mean screamingly awful.

Everyone liked lord of the rings but that was a massive turd.

The ad for rivals looked like a fun sketch. I'm willing to believe it might be good, but it's so far from anything I'd consider watching, it's difficult to click on. I will try and have a look. Quite an unusual selection of friends have said they are enjoying it.

I'm worried it's giving off 'guy richie' crossed with 'star stories' vibes.
