I couldn’t make it through one episode either - but it’s quite intimidating when all the media reviews are so over the top positive.
I never thought they'd make me dislike David Tennant but he's awful in this.I like how pretty much every single character is utterly objectionable in some way.
Well, his character is anyway. He’s anything but as an actor, and his public persona at least makes him come across as a thoroughly likeable bloke.I never thought they'd make me dislike David Tennant but he's awful in this.
Aiden Turner keeps reminding me of Mike Wozniak and I'm not upset by this.
Sounds interesting, is it like Succession?I like how pretty much every single character is utterly objectionable in some way.
I've not seen Succession!Sounds interesting, is it like Succession?
I've not seen Succession!
Rivals is based on a Jilly Cooper novel, she was also involved in the production of the TV show - it's set in the '80s and is a bit of an overexaggerated hammed up and faintly ridiculous pastiche of the era full of toffs and rampant capitalism in the TV broadcasting industry and everyone is thoroughly dislikeable and there's a lot of boffing.
Only in the ‘every character is a Ritter’ respect. This is far more comedy-leaning (though there is some drama and some dark themes). It is also wittier and faster paced. Not comparable really, but very enjoyable.Sounds interesting, is it like Succession?
Robbie Rotten was our go to.I realised last night that the actor playing Rupert Campbell Black reminds me of Buzz Lightyear which has rended him enitirely sexless
That is so true! He has an enormous chin, like the bottom half of is face has been enlarged in photoshopI realised last night that the actor playing Rupert Campbell Black reminds me of Buzz Lightyear which has rendered him enitirely sexless
I tried watching the first ep earlier, its' proper sleazy shite from the 80's (which I assumed its penned)Rivals. Oh my god, are people joking about liking this? It’s worse than I could ever have imagined!
Well, I’m sorry, but I don’t just not like it. It’s actually really, really awful. I mean screamingly awful.I’ve been the first to completely disagree with critic reviews, but you seldom see almost universal critical acclaim for any film or series that is genuinely shit. Okay to hate it, but when you have everyone from the gutter press to respected critics from highbrow publications salivating over it, it’s just not going to shit. 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating is rare indeed

Give it a go. It’s the worst programme I’ve ever seen. Ever.I don’t fancy it, but DLR hated The Americans too, so maybe I should reconsider.
47 years. How much did you watch?
