Disney + streaming video recommendations thread

You have to pay for stuff on top of the subscription. Is it worth it…
I haven’t paid extra for anything on Apple. I have on Prime.

There’s not the same volume as other platforms but almost everything I’ve watched has been great.

Shrinking, Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent, The Morning Show.

Going back a while I enjoyed Hijack although it was silly. Tehran was good too.

If you like mostly drama then there’s plenty to justify the subscription.

Apple seems to just accept that people are going to drift in and out of subs, so they focus on a low volume of high quality stuff in the hopes that you'll sub for 3 months of the year. It's definitely not a good one to pay for year round.

Depends on how you use it. I use it more than any of the other services, but more for renting films than the free stuff.

You don't need a sub to rent films though. Pity there's little/no overlap between free sub content and rentals though, so you can't just watch Severance or something without a sub. (though it would admittedly probably be cheaper to just sub for a month)

Maybe it’s not such a deliberate strategy. They have a limited original content budget, a vague plan to keep people loyal to the Apple ecosystem, some hardware ambitions (TVs, VR headsets) which look a bit silly in comparison with their core products, and a corporate mindset that just doesn’t accept unattractive or sloppy output. They will never scale up dreck factories, a la Netflix.

Producing a small amount of high-end drama for no apparent business reason is a very Apple thing to do. They will stop in a few years.

I'm pretty sure you do. but now you say you don't I'm doubting myself. :D
I don't watch much telly (too loooong), so I'm seeing it exclusively from a film-watcher's point of view and for me Apple has a lot of stuff I can't get elsewhere (torrents aside) - more choice than Amazon and Netlflix. In my experience and opinion, Netflix is the worst for that, Apple the best, though Prime and Apple both have films unavailable elsewhere, so I 'have to' keep subs for both.

That reminds me. It's time to cancel Disney again for another year.
Every year they do "3 months for £1.99/mo" at the start of September and hope you keep it full price for the Christmas break. I have better things to do, and Disney's value proposition is very much for people who like to re-watch things. Which I rarely do. I got my £6 worth, that will do for another year.

Last week’s (no. 5) episode of Skeleton Crew is the best one so far by some margin, and regardless of how this might end, a very enjoyable as a standalone episode. For kids and grownups alike, imo at least.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier turned out to be my favourite Marvel show. Didn't expect much, as the characters never really drew me in before... but this turned it around and the social commentary was well written.

Watched this again, this time with the better half. She's so so about Marvel, but really enjoyed this, as it's not one of those "fate of the universe" efforts and the characters are well written.

Wish all the Marvel shows were this good.
