DHFC Women's Team

Eastbourne United have 27 players registered on FA Full Time, have used 22 of them and have regularly had 4 or 5 subs so this may be something as simple as unavailability of players, due to work or other commitments. I believe Dulwich had games last season where the team only had a single sub. It happens. We only named two subs for our game at Clapton CFC against Fulham on Sunday.

A goal like that really needs a muddy pitch with a big puddle in the goalmouth to do it full justice, but this was the next best thing.
That pitch wasn’t the best imo. Seemed quite worn. I’ve never noticed the slope before either. Obviously that can’t be new but it just felt today I was picking up on a load of negatives about the playing surface that I’ve not noticed in prior visits. Maybe it’s towards the end of its life…?

On getting to the overground station I emptied out what felt like half a trainer full of the black pebbles. I wasn’t even on the pitch so God knows how much worse it was for the players.

Hate 3G.

Some of us were discussing that during the game. The ground is now in its 8th season since opening. I think these pitches are generally reckoned to have a 5 year lifespan, so either it's been replaced within the last couple of years, or it's well overdue for replacement. Having said that, they're not all the same in the first place and I suppose some will be more durable than others even with the same level of usage. I believe they also require a fair amount of regular maintenance, which if not done properly won't help either.

Not sure how old it is but the pitch passed its annual UEFA certification check a few weeks ago, the authorities are happy with it.

I think they generally cite 8-10 years lifespan, potentially a bit more if well maintained. I've heard suggestions the leaseholders are pretty fastidious on pitch maintenance there. It's probably heading towards the end but may have a few years life still.

In fairness, it’s not exactly been nice the last few weeks weather wise has it. Sure that affects even 3G.

Anyway. South London pink and blue an all that.

God I hate that black rubber crumb with a vengeance. Went to make myself a cup of tea the other day and discovered some had somehow found their way into my kettle!!! My knees are seem to be permanently stained from playing on the stuff. At least the (mostly) mud of Tooting Bec, Hackney Marshes, Clapham Common etc seems to wash off.

An update from Ryan after he missed the Fans Forum. As well as his reflections on 2023 and a look ahead to 2024 here: Due to catch up with our new Reserves Manager Sian on Monday too so some more Christmas viewing for you!

According to the table on the FA website, the three goal swing in goal difference is exactly what we needed to go top.

Dartford unbeaten before today, but they didn't look that impressive.

Did I hear right that the next women's home game is in March? How does that work.

There isn't another home game scheduled before March. There are still two home games not shown in the fixture list on the Full Time database, which presumably haven't been scheduled yet. Two of the next three fixtures are cup matches away to Tottenham and Fulham, and we have a couple of free weekends within the next 6 weeks that presumably might be needed for subsequent cup fixtures.

Fulham predictably won at Aylesford today to go top, but have played an extra game.

Dartford twitter feed gave today's attendance as 647.

There's a home cup game this Wednesday against Billericay
Sorry, I was just going by the list on the FA website, which doesn't include that one for some reason. Possibly because it's the Isthmian League Women's Cup, which is a bit of an anomaly as it's a men's league apparently running a competition for member clubs that have a women's team, rather than something overseen by a women's league or county FA.

Spurs away I've just seen someone on Twitter say is a 1.30 ko at Hoddestdon Town FC, not a team I've heard off.

Although after today's record attendance they might be considering a switch to white hart lane 😉

It's so bad trying to find out when and where the next fixtures are in women's football. I struggle to workout when the next game is all the time.

To put that gate into perspective, I went to Reading v Wolves, played at Aldershot, in the Women's FA Cup today. The gate was around 300 with about half supporting Wolves.

Hoddesden Town is a name which brings Hamlet fans of a certain vintage painful memories. They were at Champion Hill the day the Rabble was founded. Hoddesden defeated Hamlet in what is widely accepted as one of the worst results in the clubs history.

Since the official FA / WFA channels are so bad, could Kian perhaps have all the confirmed upcoming fixtures in a tweet / image and pin it to the top of the official women's Twitter feed?

Then we'll know there's at least one place we can trust!

I was wondering where their venue was. I haven't been since 13th February 1990!

The Hoddesdon match was at Hoddesdon, not at Champion Hill. The scene of Bill Andrews uttering the immortal words "just look at the state of that rabble behind the goal". I vaguely recall Mishi reaching over the perimeter rail and trying to pull down the goalnet "to get the game abandoned"!

This match is next Sunday and the nearest station is Broxbourne, which is about 1 mile from the ground. I've just checked and you have to get a rail replacement bus from Waltham Cross, which is a 28 minute bus journey.

I will flag this with Kian tomorrow morning mate.
