There are quite a lot of rules about drones in the UK already, although I'm sure some will need to be updated over time.

Specifically, you aren't allowed to fly a drone within 50 meters of a structure, vehicle or vessel that is not under the control of the drone owner.

There are airspace rules too.

That plane that came down in the Hudson River some years back was a victim of bird strike shortly after take off.

Srs bsns, ppl.

"A team of commercial drone developers are creating a drone whose sole purpose is to seek, intercept and destroy other drones.

Fences used to be perfectly fine for keeping prying eyes out of our backyards -- but as drones become more accessible to the consumer, concerns about privacy are on the rise. One new startup wants to fight drone with drone."

I read somewhere else it kills the target by hovering above and dropping a wire to tangle it's rotors. Rapere unlikely to be available to the public but you can imagine drone hackers trying to build non projectile, pseudo legal weapon systems. Robot Wars in the sky.

i dont mind you shooting them down if they are invading your air space.

i do mind random drone parts, over shots and shrapnel dropping/landing in my back yard...

You can use one for surveying etc but you need caa clearance insurance etc etc and it has to be an approved model so th whole things a massive headache.
But then dropping 10kilos of drone on someone from height is going to hurt.
i thnk risk assesment will but paid to most use of drones for the foreseeable future

Some research groups are directing their efforts into producing micro drones, eg the TU Delft DelFly Explorer and similar which weigh in at only a few grammes thus minimising H&S risks (amongst other advantages - cost, visibility, power consumption,...):

The army has a silent micro drone with a camera that can fly into a room.
While they were testing one was lost and trodden on when squaddies were sent to look for it.
Another only turned up when somebody pulled it out of his pack having picked it up thinking it was a toy about £12000 a drone

Has anyone post cyborg unplug yet?

Im a bit confused as to what it does, but its designed to stop invasion of the home from hidden video cameras etc, and seems to work on drones as far as I can tell.

Only if the drones rely on piggybacking your wifi to transmit, which I don't think they do.

Wifi is encypted anyway, if I was planting a bug I'd go for a 3G bug every time. Or good old fashioned radio.

to be fair when I first read it I thought it was an EMP :D

What's the range of a BW catapult? Even a full choke 12 gauge shotgun isn't going to be much use if the drone is more than 60-70m away.

A guy from my gun club had a stray drone over his property and took a few plinks at it with a .22 rimfire Ruger rifle but didn't hit it. He's a pretty fucking good shot so counter drone warfare is a hard game I reckon.

This bloke managed it

Got one. Some real estate bastard was flying one over my property to get photos of the house next to mine so I shot it down with an Adler A110 shotgun loaded with #5 steel birdshot. It took me three shots to get it so we are still waiting for Urban's first single shot drone kill.

Pics or it didn't happen.

They're mostly empty space. It's not going to be easy.

The Dutch have the right idea:

So DARPA have done exactly what I feared. Started working on something with the processing power to be semi autonomous- to navigate obstacles. And then when its got a clear run it'll hit 45mph

this is the future of 'pacification' technology :(

I don't know why, but this thread gives me waking nightmares about the thought that if my mother spotted a drone, she'd probably become enraged and try to shoot it down. She's actually a good shot, and one of the reasons that I'm thankful that it's a bit of a palaver to get (or at least keep at home) real guns in this country. She'd be scary with a proper serious weapon.
