I'd love Cav to win but I'm not sure if a five-man team or even two five-man teams if you count in Germany, who will be wanting to set it up for Greipel, can control the race over this circuit.

Could leave it open for a Belgian though Boonen isn't that fit and Gilbert has had an anonymous season apart from having a fight with a dog in the TdF (has anyone got a link for that by the way?) or someone like Leon Sanchez from Spain. It'll be hard for Sagan as he has fewer team mates.

I think it'll be quite an intriguing tactical race. I'm watching it all.

Wiggins looks fairly nailed on for the TT but I think I might have a little gamble on Tony Martin third favourite at 6/1 behind the Swiss Spartacus.

Anyone else betting? A Cav-Wiggins double pays naff all.

Yeah, bring paint and we can decorate the road.
Actually I bet that route is marshalled all night.

By the way does anyone know if ESPN or any other non-UK English-speaking channel is covering it? Don;t really fancy the GB-centric coverage that the BBC will do.

il wonder down and watch it as it as its going to be going past the road next to ours and il wont be able to get anywhere as all the roads to anywhere are closed this weeked

I can't get my head around pro riders being given orders in an amateur road race when they have no chance of getting a medal. It seems a bit unfair that only one member of the team gets the gold. There ought to be team medals as there are in many other sports.

How are the domestiques incentivised to help the wannabe winner? Is it all about brown envelopes? Do team members ever get persuaded to work for another nation? Given cycling's history of favours being bought and sold and swapped I assume the whole thing is dodgy as fuck. Can anyone point me towards any inside stories about Olympic (or World Championship) road race stitchups?

If the pack gets broken up on Box Hill and our boys try to rescue Cav but he drops off the back, what's plan B? If the four of them make it back to the leaders which one would be the designated sprinter? Do you think there might be an understanding that it's Froome's turn? What about Millar? Does Wiggo like him? Will the Sky boys ensure that the winner definitely isn't him?

Another thing...are there any stories of middling domestiques ending up with medals just because they led out the winner?

STFU. I got each way on Cav. Dont need you fucking jinking it.

I would quite like to see a bit of this IRL if I can but not sure if it's practical :hmm:

Maybe somewhere north of Battersea Bridge for the home run :hmm:

Boonen, Gilbert or even some random like Chaynyel (sp?) whose 100/1 at Paddy Power, which leaves me six hours to get there and put on a bet cos I REALLY want to jinx it so Cav wins.

nah. Watch it on TV. Whoever wins it will have done a tactical masterclass. It only lasts 5 hours. Well spent.

The roads are free of cars round here, the sun is shining, the high street has stalls out, hundreds of people gathering already, Union Jacks in hand, Union Jack clothing on, they will come through at around 1045, gonna watch them leave the Mall then head on out...excited!!!

I've just been wondering, why is it there is only 1 cycling road race and time trial, surely it would make more sense to have a road race designed for a sprint finish, one for the climbers an ITT and a TTT. I know each sport is only allowed a certain number of events but it would be great to see a Road Race with some big fucking climbs in it.

How was it? A blur?
Very impressive crowds along the road:cool:

It's early days yet but this breakaway looks dangerous.

Fair enough. Is there an official time for how long you're allowed to do it, or is it more a judgement thing? Like "ok, you're taking the piss now, get off or you're out"? And is there a limit on how many times they can do it during a race?
