Not terribly hygenic, though... :(
TBH, as long as you're getting stuff from behind supermarkets, it's all clean, mostly sealed in it's original packaging, in fact.

I don't do it because I'm squeamish about anything that's been found in a bin (I'm picky that way), but realistically it's all perfectly fine.

"We" used to skip and give our Giros to ALF.

"Quite right too! You did the right thing, boy. You should see the price of a season ticket at West Ham!"

"We" used to skip and give our Giros to ALF. Depends on your political way of living I guess. :p

This is worthy politics. When i lived in South Wales in the 80's there was a woman (50ish) who sold the Morning Star - all the time. Her flat had Morning Star leftovers as wallpaper. It's dedication.

When I used to work in homeless hostels we got binliners full of the sandwiches and cakes. Pret a Manger used to send bin liners too -but you should see the look of revulsion as the hostel people picked up the posh esoteric sandwich they did and flung it back in the bag to rummage again. All they wanted was a ham or cheese sarno.:hmm:

Good luck to yous.

As for skipping, it's just living off the waste of capitalism. Up to you if you want to do it (I suppose it's an alright way of getting free food), but not really that useful politically.

I'm undecided at the minute - its self help, its got primitive accumulation written all over it, and The Commoner website has a relevant debate on it about 'how capitalism has to permanently suppress primitive accumulation'.

What say you to a Free Food program rather like the Black Panthers using skipped food? I think it has possibilities:cool:

Dont some Supermarkets pour bleach and stuff into their skips nowadays so the food cant be used.

Nowt wrong with skip diving, its been going on for donkeys years - can be a real lifesaver for people with fuck all.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable activity to me. It doesn't suddenly change from when they were selling it off cheap a few hours beforehand, it's just going to be a bit squashed and mixed up.

That isn't my understanding of the meaning of Marx's term at all.

I was thinking about the way people survived without working during primitive accumulation. Are you sure you know nothing of this? The chapters in Capital volume 1 on primitive accumulation talk about how people were forced from the land where they lived prior to industrial capitalism.

Stuff like that really pisses me off, waste for the sake of waste.

Yeah, I wouldn't dream of having a pop at people for doing it, I just don't think it's a form of meaningful political activity in and of itself.

I'm not sure I follow you here. Are you suggesting a link between supermarkets artificially creating scarcity and enclosure?
