Interesting that you only mention viewing Bungle's responses with dismay, I saw everybody's responses with dismay.

I saw Bungle's responses with dismay for a rather different reason. I've been on Urban enough to know what a bunfight looks like: what I felt I was seeing with Bungle was someone actually starting to lose it. Hence the dismay.

To be honest I was looking forward to taking you ALL on in arguing why "stupid woman" wasn't sexist in this instance, but that intention got fucked amidst the bunfight.

I think a few (myself included) were probably guilty of being a bit obtuse about that point, but he really doesn't help himself at times.

Sometimes you don't join in because people are already more or less making the point you agree with. Sometimes you can't be arsed. Sometimes even though there are 10 people on one side of an argument, the person on the other has said something so provocative / interesting / bizarre, you can't resist answering. Even if you don't have the opportunity to do so, til later on. Thus adding to what on the surface looks like a mob. But it's not as if people coordinate.

Anyway, much as it's just common decency to step back and stop arguing with someone who appears to be losing it or the point's being laboured. It's also frustrating and pointless, if you're someone who likes an occasional argument, to not get involved out of some misguided self sensoring to prevent looking like a bully. As I think existentialist said the other day, Urban's not a gentteal debating society.

Frankly, Bungle's good point/crap point ratio is massively skewed toward the latter, and he has mostly brought his meltdowns on himself by talking utter shite and getting picked up on it.
