Residents of Roath in Cardiff will make history this weekend when polls open for the suburb’s independence referendum.
The completely unofficial vote, which has not been recognised by the city council, Welsh Government or UK Government, will decide if residents want to see the district gain independence from the rest of Cardiff by establishing itself as a new nation.
The call for political change has been led by Sir Alfred Street, curator of The Actual History Museum of Roath.
Sir Alfred, who would not divulge his real name, said: “This political call for change was sparked last year when, as part of the Made in Roath Festival, we officially opened the Actual History Museum of Roath in Werfa Street.
“The museum is the first real account of Roath’s history.”
A Question Time style event will be held at the Roath Park pub on Friday at 8pm when residents will be asked to help form Roath’s future in light of a Yes vote.
A polling station at 14, Werfa Road, will then open for around four hours at 12pm on Saturday before a count is held on Sunday evening at 7pm.
