There's an area like that in Grimsby, and no doubt many other places. Scartho, pronounced "Scar-thoe" if you live there, and "Scaffa" if you don't.

Hmmm...I'll let the Cardiff crew speak for their own city's district, but IMHO, Splott is Splott...no other version AFAIK.
Whereas...where I'm from originally Baddlesmere is always Baaarrsmere.
