buying a new pillow

Hellsbells

World's best procrastinator
my pillows are rank - i stole them from the last house I rented & god knows how old they are or how many people have slept on them before me. I really want to get some nice new ones in the sales, but having never bought a pillow before in my life, i am totally clueless.

Which are the best pillows to get? (i don't want to spend loads). Duck feather, goose feather, memory foam....etc?? What pillow do you have?

I have a memory foam pillow, and it's rather nice. Bit frail in its casing, but inside another pillow case it's a tough lill' cookie. Feather pillows piss me off, always getting ends of feathers stuck in your face.

It's a preference thing. Unlike xes, I hate memory foam but love feather. As long as it is down and curled.
Go to a dept store and squish some. There are fab ones with a foam core, surrounded by feather and with a hypoallergenic case in johnlewis sale. My absolute favourites.

do you use 2 pillows when sleeping or 1?
My current pillows are so crap, I always use 2. Just wondered what the norm was if you have a decent pillow...

I prefer newness to longevity, so I buy relatively cheap IKEA ones often.

I'd need to buy one every couple of months - that's how long it usually takes me to become disenchanted.

I wish I could advise, OP but I've spent any amount on all sorts of pillows and even my super duper temper memory foam stupidly expensive one is only 'ok'.

Duck is heavier I think. Goose being lighter would make pillow fluffier, but also less supportive, but as both of those are feather and down, I suppose it depends on what percentage is feathers and how much is down

This subject totally confuses me so I'm probably wrong

tbh, i've never slept on a decent pillow or mattress in my life other than occasional hotel ones, so anything slightly better than what i currently have, is going to feel amazing

then you're probably going to be perfectly happy with any 10 quid pillow. Don't spend too much.

In last year's sales we bought 6 duck down pillows from John Lewis for about £120

They're very comfortable

That'll probably go flat as a pancake in no time at all (depending on what he buys)

I want a pillow that goes flat in no time to put under my other pillows as that is what I grew up with, two pillows one flat, but there is no way of knowing which ones will def do this. They tend not to advertise the fact.

Oh that's simple, buy those £5 hypo-allergenic foam ones that declare themselves to be bounceback or similar. They'll last you a few weeks before they're flat as a pancake :D

Will take a look in my lunch break this week. So, do you sleep on 2 of these or is one enough?
I sle on one, the Northerner on 2. It's such a preference thing..... We have compromised on mattress hardness too (I know you can get half and half but our lottery win is slightly delayed.....)

Is that because they go flat as a pancake or do you just like pillows? :hmm:

We like pillows and bedding in general (and we got a load of John Lewis vouchers for our wedding last year) :) We have a lovely thick king size mattress which has a cool (aloe vera latex) side for the summer and a warm (memory foam) one for the winter. We also have a great thick duck down duvet which keeps you nice and toasty in the winter.

After years of sleeping on shit mattresses and shit pillows etc. it's an absolute luxury

I use two; with feather pillows you can fluff them up, beat them into whatever shape you require, they are never too thick to sleep with two. I sleep on my side though, which makes a difference.

I can't have feather ones, they make me wheeze, even the so-called hypoallergenic ones.

I have a memory foam because I like a firm, supportive pillow. I bought it from Primark because it was inexpensive and firm enough for my taste.
