Buying a bike: advice, recommendations and chat

Finally managed to persuade my wife that I should be allowed back on the road and there's none left. Should have concentrated all the nagging on having a grow tent in the shed instead.
Dunno what sort of bike you're after, but...

XXL currently available.

A cheaper one. :D I did already have it bookmearked but I've never spent that much on a bike in my life. It's less than 6 months oyster money but chuck on a helmet, mudguards and stuff and it's a lot of dosh.

Also it looks a bit nippy. I should be slowing down a bit.

When bike companies bring out next year's models, this year's will often be marked down. This is usually around September but things may be different this year.

A few years ago I picked up my Cannondale Synapse reduced from about £600 to £250. That was a particularly good deal but you see quite a lot of bikes 25-30% off normal price.

I think things are going to be very different. Evans for example are currently showing November delivery dates for some of their own brand 2020 models

Edinburgh bike coop have the same bike as Badgers xxl for 450. I should research more. 😇

Should have grabbed it while I could. All gone now. Still not keen on Bees' maniac bike (and a bit pricey). Anyone have any idea where I could grab a bike suitable for a very tall (a little over 6'6") rider? BigTom ? I know we're the same height and you're a keen cyclist.

Sorry, you're thinking of someone else, I'm a shade over 6ft and happy on standard large men's size bikes, no idea about XL sized stuff.

It really isn’t a maniac bike, just a nice hybrid.

Which means you need to buy it, obviously

Just been made redundant and need an alternative to the tube. 600 quid on a bike I don't really like the look of doesn't feel wise.

The only way to do it is keep an eye on eBay (particularly collection only), Facebook marketplace and Facebook groups, there’s a decent road bike buying one. Obviously in the SE it’s going to be a bit harder, but the used trade is very healthy. People don’t know how to set up bikes (especially used), are bad at sizing, seat choice etc... so often just end up reselling. Will be harder with large sizes of course, but a few do turn up.

There are a few on eBay worth watching:

I’d have a look in EU countries at discount sites. There seems to be reasonable stock and they deliver to the UK.

I like those Rock Hoppers....was gonna get one in the future and kit out as a dad bike. With child seat, rear rack etc etc.

Those second hard prices are mental though.
But if I bought one and didn't like it I reckon I could get my money back two weeks later selling it on no problem.

This is genuinely tempting. 400 quid including postage:
