Buying a bike: advice, recommendations and chat

Specialized Sirrus £400ish

Revolution Cross £525 also makes a nice commuter if you like drop bars, you can always stick slicker tyres on if you want to use it solely on road

Other bike shops are of course available ;)

Just wanted to thank you again for the advice. I settled on Specialized Vita because Sirrus, despite its attractiveness and my kind of colour, is a little big for the midget such as myself. x

Obviously, it goes without saying that when you move to London with the 3 mini weepipers and open your bike shop, we will all be serviced by you, you'd have no time to relax. ;)

Please can any of you good people help a sadbrains with bike related questions.

Our wonderful weepiper had helped with a bike recommendation that I managed to ride for a little bit shortly before moving on to another job.

Can you tell by looking at this picture the size of the frame? I think it's 16', does it look like a 16 inch frame to you? Sorry for asking dumb questions.

Also, there is this strappy thing that I was given with the Kryptonite lock, how can get it off the frame?

thank you!

Hi all, I have decided that I want to get rid of the car and cycle to work instead in order to save money and get fitter. It's quite a challenging ride as there are a couple of massive hills involved. I also want to use it to ride off road sometimes as there is a great space nearby that has a lot of different tracks on.

I am thinking about £750 for the bike and I would also appreciate it if someone would recommend some clothing and a helmet too.
Where are you based bmd?

I have a Ridgeback Speed bike (RRP £340) which is not in use and has not done 100 miles. Am broke at the moment so could do with £100 (or so as you can spare) for it. Needs to be collected from Hertfordshire and the chain greased etc. :hmm:

I can see where your username comes from :D

Have a good look on the frame, they often have the size printed on them somewhere...

you should cut it in half and make two unicycles out of it and sell each of them for £100

The little stroppy thing for the lock could be velcro and if so, simply peels off.
The black thing used to hold the lock.

I am selling the bike, but I want to hold on to that thing, just don't know how to get it off the frame.

Might have to go to a bike shop to ask for help.

No, there is some kind of a bastard clip that requires a freakin rugby player to un-clip it.
It has a 3mm Allen bolt recessed in the middle of the face of the plastic bit, undo that all the way and the plastic bit will come off, exposing a metal buckle thing that you'll then be able to feed the strap back through to remove it.

Oil the chain, pump the tyres up, give it a wipe down and stick it on eBay, cheap bikes are gold dust at the moment - you literally can't get new bikes for less than about 800 quid because all the cheaper ones have sold out. I've sold a couple of bikes I had kicking around recently and they both had 50+ watchers and went for tidy sums, and one of them was only a kids' bike. It will sell for way more than a hundred quid.

Let me measure up for ya.
To save you a bit of trouble if you're under six foot two or so they're unlikely to have sold you the largest model.

I'm completely desperate for a bike but so is everyone else so can't be had for love nor money at the moment. You could probably get more then double what you were asking for it.

I am just under 6ft so probably not. Am going to tidy it up anyways as need some cash. Will post up the details anyway and stick on ebay or whatever if no urbans want it.

Well if it does turn out to be the 23"/xxl frame give me a shout. Could pick up with cash at your convenience.

There’s a lot of trade on eBay and Facebook marketplace, so it’s worth keeping an eye out there. But yeah xxl frames aren’t exactly common. Facebook groups also quite helpful.
