I'm in Trowbridge so towpath is Bath one way and Devizes t'other. It's a fair old climb up Caen Hill - I've done it in years gone by and I remember stopping at every 3rd lock
Yes there's a bike shop thats got a good rep about 3 miles away. TT Cycles | Bike ShopIs there a bike shop near you felixthecat ? I know it’s been mentioned already, but we’re going off on tangents again... and really there’s no substitute for actually trying out a few bikes, even ones you can’t afford. At least give you a handle on what suits you... a bike that fits how you use it, and your physiology is by far the most important thing. Coz y’know, want to be minimising the repetitive micro-tears in your plantar fascia

I love the whole engineering aspect of that lock system. How to make water go uphillI'm in Trowbridge so towpath is Bath one way and Devizes t'other. It's a fair old climb up Caen Hill - I've done it in years gone by and I remember stopping at every 3rd lock
I'm going to take a stroll down to the Julian House bike workshop on Friday - I feel a little more prepared to do that now I've got a better idea of what points to look for
I will report back.
My mum lives just up the road from there so next time I'm over there I'll pop downThe TT place probably also worth a look as they stock Cube, admittedly probably totally out of stock, but worth a peak.

Must take an age to get up, or down
It's cool isn't it?
Fuck me! Who would have thought that the simple bicycle could become so complicated. Back when I were a lad, possession of a bike with a three speed hub was being top of the tree.
Back when you were a lad it was direct drive only, massive wheel at the front, small one at the back. 150 years later the ‘mullet bike’ is back in fashion in the mtb world, nothing new under the sun, etc...

Probably looking at a 16" wheel BMX rather than a standard 20" one at five. My two sons were on a 16" wheel Mongoose BMX at that age but tbh I wouldn't recommend, as it was heavy and the highish ratio single gear limits what sort of riding they can do. Secondhand Frog bike? She's still quite small so probably a Frog 48 will be the biggest she could manage, there's plenty on eBay going for your sort of budget and they're very nice quality, easy to ride because they're lightweight and well proportioned parts. This age range will generally still be in good condition secondhand too.Anyone got any ideas on bikes for a five year old? 120cm tall and 46-47cm inside leg. Ideally would like something that can adjust up a bit so she can ride it for a couple of years and pass to her brother. Budget is 150ish (well, that and a balance bike for the little one under 200 would be ideal). Is she big enough for a bmx? I need something that I can persuade her is better than some Disney themed piece of shit from the toyshop.

^^^^^ This.
Unfortunately my wife agrees with Bahnhof Strasse and beesonthewhatnow so I'm going to get the Cubley for the girl and the Frog balance bike for the boy too. They have a rewards scheme ('pedal points') and if you invite someone you get a tenner off so if either of you are currently using it and want to save money by inviting me (saves me too) let me know.
