Burger Thread. Yes!

One thing the pandemic has shown me is that home cooked food really is far better than anything take away.

Its only when you go from home cooked to bought that you realise how much sugar or salt is put into foods.

I bought a battenburg cake as part of my online shopping. A Mr Kipling Battenburg to be precise.
It was ridiculously sweet.
I never noticed that before but lockdown and cocooning has definitely led to my taste buds becoming highly sensitive.
Ooh... Battenburg, not had a bit in years.
A great cake.

Is this admissible on the burger thread or nay? It’s a “dirty plate” my local burger place has started doing, and features chopped up burgers as part of the toppings.

Fries, chopped burgers, bacon, chipotle Mayo, sliced mild chillies, lettuce, salted creme fraiche, cheese and spring onions.

No burger buns were harmed in the making - apologies for any offence caused to burger purists!

I’m gonna order one as takeaway later this week or next, but doubt it will look this pretty once turned out onto my plate at home, so using the restaurant’s own pic.

Great solution! I’ve been railing about the increasing height of burgers for ages.We all love the ingredients but why pile them so high they’re difficult to eat?

I don't think it counts as a burger but it does look pretty good

How tall would a burger have to be before it becomes unpleasant to try to eat. For me it's a Big Mac but only because it's easily compressed. Without compression? Quarter pounder tops (without fucking pickles obviously).

After not inconsiderable thought I'm coming round to something loosely based around a deconstructed Big Mac, probably minus, we'll not probably but more definitely minus the cheese and American mustard, and lighter on the pickle or even no pickle initially

So a fries base, maybe a thinly sliced burger bun, say a standard bun but sliced in three if that were do'able, I think shredded lettuce and onion mixed, then the broken up burger, diced bacon and frankfurter, sorry to say but next tomato sauce and I'm still in two minds about a small amount of pizza style cheese, more as a binding agent than for taste

I was then thinking a quick go under the grill but realised that that would not be great for the lettuce so how about the meat element being cooked in an oven proof pan, sauce and cheese being added, five minutes in a hot oven THEN put onto the base. I think that would work

As a confirmed McD hater, I’m kinda shocked by this - but each to his own! Edit - reading what you wrote more carefully you’re inspired by a Big Mac, but not using an actual big mac, so I’ll revoke my harsh words😅

How we forget David Morris and Helen Steel and how MCD's tried to destroy them  (just one example of how they have had a go at underdogs).

Now this is what I'm talking about. An easy to eat classic burger.
Cheese. Yes.
Quarter pound flame grilled burger. Yes.
Bacon. Yes.
Normal bun. Yes.
Ketchup. Yes.
Can you fit the fucking thing in your mouth comfortably? Yes.

They are already here 😲

I'm curious, they could really do well here if they fill a niche where Burger King is. Ie above McDonald's, but below stuff like 5 guys.

I've moaned about it loads on this thread, but I've basically given up on BK, the quality is so hit and miss.

Granted I'm basing my need for a Wendy's burger on what may be a coming up to a 40 year old memory but you can keep your 5 Guys burger

Interested about you giving up on BK - is this quality issue from the same outlet or across different sites?

I'm looking at a 20-30 miles round trip to access a BK or a McD and I'm lucky that my first and only BK in 2-3 years wasn't half bad and my last two visits to the orange clown they've managed to fuck up both orders just enough to be really annoying

It's mostly the ones in service stations (where they further annoy me by putting prices whereas McDonald's don't), but last time I went to one in a town it was filthy and the order slow.

Typically they are food I eat when I'm traveling though, which is when I want them to be good!

Not enough cheese...but I would definitely eat that.

(However...it's not a burger)

Made a really good burger last night, if I say so myself.

Double burger actually.
Simple... no greenery...no tomatoes.

Just an excellent bun ,
Lashings of onions on top of both burgers..
The onions were fried on low heat til soft and some were caramelised.
Cheese (proper mature cheddar) on both burgers)
Burger sauce from Heinz...
Assembled the lot and wanted to keep it warm so popped it in the oven for 5 mins while the chips were finishing off.

The buns got toasted outside and the cheese and burger sauce melted together and drizzled down the two burger patties.

No pics.. sorry.
Got tuckin in too fast and forgot.
