Burger Thread. Yes!

That was the perfect, basic, honest to goodness burger. No brioche, Fiiled with slow cooked wagyu beef slaughtered by leprocauns and cooked by hipsters over a £10,000 range. It was a basic burger, no frills, cooked in the old cabbies stall on Chelsea Bridge. A real back to the roots burger, just how they should be.

It's a burger! It's meat in a bread roll so you can eat it holding it in your hands on the go without burning your hands on the hot meat, and to keep the onions in place. I'd have gone with a slice of cheese on there mind you, but otherwise yes please. Bet you didn't have to remortgage to buy it either.

I think half the folks on this thread have forgotten the point of a burger.

Fwiw was offered cheese and ketchup and mayo...all declined in favour of a pure, tasty £4.50 burger.

I'd have gone with cheese, ketchup and mustard myself - I don't think mayonnaise has any place on a burger, OH insists on putting mayo on the bottom bun though for some reason. Also there shouldn't be so much in the way of condiments that it makes the bun soggy or drips everywhere (keeping it as something you can pick up and eat on the go), a small bit of each is sufficient.

So my version of that sort of perfect, simple, non-gentrified burger would be (in order of the items, and the bun is standard plain or sesame seed, not brioche, if I want dessert I will ask for it):

Top of the bun
Ketchup and Mustard
Onions
Cheese slice
Burger
Bottom of the bun

I always think a McDonald’s cheeseburger / quarter pounder (which bar the gherkins matches your list exactly) contains the perfect balance of ingredients.

Obviously not the best quality, but recreating it with better quality ingredients and then you’re on to something

Yeah I am not averse to a bit of sliced gherkin, the main thing is that even if you add a few slices, they aren't adding to the vertical dimension of the thing much. They fit in a tiny layer with the condiments without impacting the structure of the thing or making it difficult to eat on the go.

I just am starting to object a bit to the gentrification (including pricing) of the basic staples of fast food and transport caff breakfasts and lunches - if somewhere is serving a burger that costs a tenner or more and is held together with cocktail sticks then it doesn't matter how good the individual ingredients are, they have missed the point.

It's kind of disproportionately tall compared to its width, but the meat does look lush, lovely and thick.

I actually love the way it's sort of teetering on top of the tomato and onion stack, hilarious - waiting for it to topple LOL

Dropped into here walking back from the cinema

Got the Cheeky Elivis, Fries and chicken bites.

Damn tasty. The burger was thick and still a touch pink in the middle.
The fries were crispy and extra salty just how I like em.
The chicken was maybe a touch overdone but the crispy coating was great.

was a very satisfying meal.
